Install Process of Symantec Antivirus (SAVFL) on Red Hat Linux

Hello Everyone!

This video demonstrates how to intall Symantec Antivirus for Linux. It is a command line install process.

The Video is created using Linux terminal to demonstrate the install process.It includes the following steps:

1) Verify Red Hat Linux kernel version details.

2) Verfiy Java version.

3) Download the SAVFL software at custom location (Not mandatory)

4) Unzip the software.

5) Install the software.

6) Verify the installation.

I have issues  when installing , i am installing it on a VM machine  and it runs RHEL 7(3.10.0-957.1.3.el7.x86_64 ) all needed Packages are install. Once i start the install script it run then stops, then the machine boots to emergency mood.

Do I have to install something?

Hi,

You need to install appropriate packages based on the operating System. If operating system is 32 bit you need to install 32bit Auto Protect package. If operating system is 64 bit install 64 bit Auto protect package.

In this video it was 64 bit OS so i installed 64bit Auto Protect package.

I have RHEL 6.4 and kernel 2.6.32-358 will be have to install the 32 bit autoprotect or 64 bit?

 

Why are installing 32bit autoprotect instead of 64bit in the video is there a reason?

If you want to use the graphical interface, you must also install an X11 environment.

There are additional prerequisites for some Linux kernels:

  • Fedora on 64-bit computers: because many SAV for Linux executables are 32-bit, you must install some i686-based dependent packages. You can install them with this command: yum install glibc.i686 libgcc.i686 libX11.i686
  • Debian AMD64: if you want to use the graphical interface, you must install the 32-bit X11 libraries. You can install them with this command: sudo apt-get install ia32-libs
