Demo: How to use the Symantec Endpoint Protection Prep Tool

Mar 12, 2010 11:10 AM

Overview:

Symantec Endpoint Prep is a tool that is designed to uninstall any competitive product automatically. This tool can also launch another application before or after removing all competitive products. Therefore you can configure this tool to first remove all competitive products (including Norton products) and then launch the SEP installer automatically and silently. SEPprep works on all supported Windows SEP client operating systems (both 32-bit and 64-bit). There are two different binaries: one for 32-bit systems and one for 64-bit systems. SEPprep comes with and requires the SEPprep.ini file. This file is used for configuration of the SEPprep tool.

You can find this tool in the CD2 of Symantec Endpoint Protection.

Dear Mr.Aniket Amdekar,

First i would like to thanks you for posting such a grateful blog with video,

Recently we purchase Symantec protection suite (SEP 12.1.4),

Earlier we were using Symantec endpoint protection 11.0.7,

we un install old one and reinstall SEPM 12.1

Now i would like to remove all the SEP 11.0.7 from the clients, we have x86 and 64 bit OS structure in our domain,

we got CD bundle pack with purchase, but we don’t have any  CD2 cd with that bundle, even i verify in fileconnect.symantec.com, i dint find out any utilities separate over there.

So can you guide me how to get this utility with our license

Brain,

You said it is possible but not clear how it is?

Please clear the conclusion.

Would it notify to me in  my central console on what was installed and what was removed? That way it would be easier to have my audits on the network completed.

Dear Aniket,

Everyone need this. Thanks for sharing this helpful video.

But one question...

You know most of the time system need reboot after uninstallating any AV product and SEP get rollback when we wont rebooting the same.

Can we set the command in configuration file that reboot once uninstallation finish and starts SEPsetup.exe after system starts???

Please reply if this is possible.

Regards,
Mansoor Rashid

Hi,

Apologies for missing to mention this point in the original text.

This tool will be available in the CD2 for RU6 release of the product.
