I have gone through all of my documentation of the license, and I cannot locate this PIN anywhere.  A google search turns up nothing substantial either.  Please tell me I am overlooking something.  Thanks,

Here it does not say anything about PIN; which software is asking for PIN? symantec ? or mcafee encryption?

I burned a copy of Symantec_Endpoint_Recovery_Tool_1.0.17_AllWin_EN.iso and booted from it.  Right after selecting English as the language when continuing to run SERT, i get the following screen:

It does not take my Symantec serial number and I do not know what else to use there so that I may use the CD.  Thanks,

Should be your postal code? Is there anything in the readme.txt document !!

It appears to be looking for a 13 digit number, as the "I AGREE" button will not become active until there are 13 characters in the pin.

No matter what I type in the field, I receive the following error:

I have no idea what product key it is looking for.  Thanks,

    Hello Flantec,

We are aware of this issue and investigating. A current workaround is to set the BIOS date to Apr. 29 2011 before booting to SERT. After you finish with SERT scanning, you can set the BIOS date back to the correct date.

    Thanks

The only workaround identified at this stage is to change the BIOS date to a date prior to 30 April 2011 before using SERT, and change it back to the correct date after finish with SERT.

Many thanks, Flantec, for the query and screenshots.  As fluo stated above, Symantec is currently working on a solution to this and a BIOS workaround is available.  All interested parties are encouraged to subscibe to the following article, which will be updated when that solution is available:

Symantec Endpoint Recovery Tool (SERT) requires a PIN to run (http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH159200)

    Thanks and best regards,

The issue with the Symantec Endpoint Recovery Tool asking for a PIN has been resolved.  The new tool no longer requires a PIN.

The tool is available via Fileconnect.

RE: Symantec Endpoint Recovery Tool (SERT) and no PIN needed.

Can I assume that you are referring to version 2.0.24 (and any new versions thereafter)  ?

Hi, I have the older version of the SERT and need it to recover a computer.   When I go to fileconnect and enter my license ID I don't get an option to download the SERT.  All I can download is the product I purchased.  I have the version 12.x Small Business Edition of SEP.

How do I get the new SERT that doesn't require the PIN or reseting the BIOS date?

    Thanks,

    TJ

If SERT isn't showing up on your FileConnect account, the fastest way to get it would be to call Support.  We've posted the tool in a fileshare account, and we can give you the credentials to log in and download it.

i just discovered the newer version of SERT today and was shocked to find the pin number issue is resolved in the SERT v2.0.24 since the TECH159200 hasn't been updated yet.  I followed symantec support's suggestion of subscribing to that KB so I would be alerted if a real solution was created, but I never received an KB update alert.

granted i'm pleased that the newer version of SERT resolves this issue.  but saddened that Symantec has failed again with communicating with its licensed customers.

if the "symantec employees" that are watching this forum please look into that oversite, i'm sure we'd all appreciate it.
