What is the correct path to move SEPM 11.0.6 to 12.1

  • 1.  What is the correct path to move SEPM 11.0.6 to 12.1

    Hello,

I will have to move my SEPM server 11.0.6 to a new Windows 2008 R2 server. I need also to upgrade SEPM 11.0.6 to 12.1.  What should be the correct path to follow?

    Here is what I think:

    1. Install SPEM 11.0.6 on the new server as an additional server

    2. reassign client to the new server

    3. upgrade the new server to 12.1

I would prefer to install a fresh new 12.1 SEPM on the new server, but I think that will not be possible,

    Thanks for your help.

You can install a Fresh SEPM on 2k8 R2 server and then use Sylinkreplcaer for 12.1 for re-connecting the clients back to SEPM 12.1

    Hi,

    Few concerns are here.

How many clients do you have in your network ? if you have limited number of clients then you can go with Sylink replacer tool.

If you have bigger setup then you will have to think about available options.

    Hello,

I would say you are going with the right plan.

However, incase you are looking forward to Install new SEPM 12.1 on the new server, than in that case, you would have to make the use of SylinkReplacer for 12.1.

SylinkReplacer for 12.1 is availble with Symantec Technical Support, so please contact Symantec Technical support for the same.

    Hope that helps!!

Is sylinkreplacer has to be run manually on each client?

The more I think about it, doing a fresh install of 12.1 is not the easiest way vs adding a new server 11.0.6 to the existing domain and than upgrade it to 12.1 after

You have to run it centrally from server.

about the SEPM policies from the 11.0.6 server, is there a way to export it in the new 12.1 SEPM server ?

The policies will remain unchanged when you upgrade. So no need to worry. In case of any issue you have the DB backup which is taken while following DR steps.

    Hi,

I am agree with Pete, but just for info you can manually export your current SEPM policies and import same in new SEPM 12.1
