  • 1.  What are the consequences for overdeployment of SEP licenses

I just became the manager for a new SEP< and found out the SEPM is overdeployed by 3000 seats.  What are the consequences of this? are there any ramifications?  I am trying to get them to buy more licenses but they are stubborn.....

    Overdeployed

    Types of enforcement

When the license goes out of compliance the SEP product goes into enforcement mode. There are two types of enforcement

    1)  Hard Enforcement: SEP 12.1 Small Business Edition

    • Content update downloads stop for both server and clients. In Small Business Edition it's 1:1 mapping with CAT server.
    • UI changes and log notifications are started.

    2)  Soft Enforcement: SEP 12.1 Enterprise Edition

    •  Content update downloads continue from all the sources.
    •  UI changes and log notifications are started.

    Thanks for the fast response.

That would be helpful to me if I spoke "symantec".  Can you please explain to me (IN LAYMAN'S TERMS) if there are any ramifications of overdeployment?  cause from what you have given me - there are NO problems with over deployment - everything is still covered and protected...  I do not know what you mean by Hard enforcement vs. soft enforcement - they look the same to me.  The co i work for has a license for 300 seats but has about 4500 seats in the SEPM. it doesn't look like there are any probs being overdeployed - especially if all PCs are still updated and protected.  there is no motivation to purchase the correct amount...

is there anything that DOESNOT happen when seats are overdeployed?

I am not trying to be rude but it would be great if you could take the time and answer my little questions instead of telling me to go read some forum where i dont speak "Symantec"!!!  :(

i will try and have someone else explain to me what - if any - the isues will be....frustrated now...

    Hi,

There are two SEP products i.e Small Business Edition & Enterprise Edition

    Types of enforcement

When the license goes out of compliance the Symantec Endpoint Protection product goes into enforcement mode.

In your case it must be Enterprise Edition, Clients and servers are still protected even though number is exceeded..

In Enterprise Edition there would be not be any impact on the product functioning.
