Upgrading Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager 11.0.5002.333 to 12.1.1 MP1

  • 1.  Upgrading Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager 11.0.5002.333 to 12.1.1 MP1

    Hi Everyone:

    Actually I've a Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager 11.0.5002.333 with about 100 clients (also 11.0.5002.333). I would like to install a new SEP Manager 12.1.1 MP1 in a new server, with a fresh installation. I don´t care about policies from old server and configuration. I just want to install a new fresh manager and after that move or reinstall clients. Is it as easy as I'm planning? Do I have to take some cautions? Have someone done this kind of "upgrade"? Thank you su much.

    You need to first upgrade to 12.1 RU1 than go to RU1 MP1. Please see this doc and you should be good:

    You can't upgrade SEP 11.0.5002.333 to 12.1.1 MP1,

    First you can upgrade SEP 11.x -> SEP 12.RU1 ->12.1.1 RU1 MP1

    hi,

    Direct upgrade is not possible due to schema changes in proudcts.

    Due to schema changes the upgrade may failed and lead to database corruption.

    Always follow supported upgrade path for the SEPM and SEP clients.

    First you can upgrade SEP 11.x --> SEP 12.1 --->SEP 12.1 RU1 MP1.

    Firrst, thank you everyone for your responses.

    Maybe I'm not being clear enough to explain myself, so I want to clearify what I want to do.

    - I've actually have a fully functional a server with SEP Manager 11.0.5002.333 with about 100 clients (also 11.0.5002.333). I will call this server "oldserver".

    - I want to install a NEW SEP Manager 12.1.1 RU1 MP1 in a new server (I'll call this server "newserver"), This "newserver" will replace my "oldserver". I want a new database, new policies, etc. I don't want any configuration from my "oldserver".

    - Finally, I want to reinstall or uninstall/install Endpoint Protection Client in all my clients.

    - Could both SEP Manager co-exist while I "move" my clients (doing reinstallation) from my old SEP Manager to the new one?

    I hope I've clearify the situation.

    Thank you very much.

    Yes ,you can install Sep 12.1 RU1 MP1 in new server.

    SEPM 12.1 RU1 MP1 can manage SEP 12.x and SEP 11.x clients.

    Use Sylink Replacer to move client to Move from old SEPM to new SEPM

    Note: different IP and host name in new SEPM server.

    Hi,

    Only problem seems to me is the client upgrade path.

    Upgrade path is same for both i.e. SEPM and SEP clients.

    If you faced any problem during direct migration of clients from RU5 to SEP 12.1 RU1MP1 then you will be in big problem.

    I would like to suggest following plan:

    Install SEPM 12.1 RU1

    Upgrade existing RU5 clients to SEP 12.1 RU1

    Upgrade SEPM to SEP 121.1 RU1 MP1

    Upgrade clients to RU1 MP1

    Also you can continue with SEP 12.1 RU1 if not looking for any specific fix in MP1.

    You still need to follow the correct upgrade path for the clients unless you plan to uninstall 11.0.5 manually from each computer at which point you can than just install 12.1 RU1 MP1. But if you are upgrading the clients you need to follow the above upgrade path.

    It's the required upgrade path. Otherwise, you risk database corruption.
