Is there a way to uninstall a password protected client via a script without removing the password from all the clients in a group?  We're planning a staged deployment for 12 and would like avoid leaving the entire organization without a removal password.

I've read some articles here about changing a registry setting, but they are old.

    Hello,

I do not think you may have to Uninstall the Symantec Endpoint Protection v.11.x clients to Install Symantec Endpoint Protection v.12.1. They could migrate flawlessly without any issues.

Here are few steps to look at for Migration:

    1) Upgrading and migrating to Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1

    2) Steps to prepare computers to install Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1 client

    Hope that helps!!

Well, the only wrinkle with that is we are moving to a new server as well.  This is a ground-up rebuild for our SEP environment.

It was my understanding from the implementation guide that you can't upgrade the client without uninstalling when the client must change management servers.  If that's incorrect, then please let me know!

    Hello,

Question First, since you are going to change the server, will the Host name and Server IP address change from the old server??

If no, then why no simple Migrate the SEPM 11 to SEPM 12.1 and then work on the Disaster recovery steps for SEP 12.1??

    Check this Thread: https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/move-sepm-another-server-0

    Check this Article: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH171767

    Hope that helps!!

Yes, the hostname and IP will change since we plan to run them side-by-side until the roll-out is completed.

    Hello,

In that case, check the Article provided above:

I am sure that would help you..

That is one way to do it, I suppose.  Thank you for pointing that out.

Because we wanted to start completely fresh with SEP 12, replicating or DR is not really what we'd like to do.

Our current configuration is stretched.  We have 3000+ clients.  In anticipation of future growth, we wanted to build a completely new instance of the the manager using a MS-SQL db, on a new physical host with different drive configurations, etc.

For migration, we wanted to schedule jobs in Altiris to replace SEP 11 with SEP 12 on selected machines to allow us to gradually migrate with as little disruption to the users as possible.  At the end of that process, any machines still reporting to the original server probably didn't have the Altiris dagent software for some reason and they will be migrated manually.

After thinking it over, I'm really starting to like this idea... ;)  Thanks!
