  • 1.  Unable to open, use, or uninstall PGP WDE / Destop

    Hi there,

We've recently begun testing a PGP Universal Server + PGP Desktop/WDE deployment, client version 10.1.2.9.

PGP Universal Server installation is fine, however I just want it to manage the PGP WDE clients (not do any mail processing).

Created a policy and downloaded the client for my Win7 Pro 64 bit system, and it appears to install OK. When I go to run it:

"PGP Desktop is unable to contact your organisations PGP configuration server". I have done the troubleshooting for this (such as telnet pgp.server.com 443, etc, and it should be OK).

If I run the PGPWDE.exe command line, I get:

    C:\Program Files (x86)\PGP Corporation\PGP Desktop>pgpwde
Warning: PGPwde is running in restricted environment.
             Some features are disabled
Warning: Unable to open PGPwde driver.
Hard disk operations will not be possible.
    Operation no operation failed:
    Error code -11977: improper initialization

However, I can't uninstall it either. The uninstallation process sits there at approx 75% of the status bar complete, at the 'Gathering required information' stage.

A bit stuck! Any help would be appreciated.

Make sure that your patches/hotfixes and everything is up to date there. I have seen lots of problems, like this, installing the client because of out of date windows installer issues and things like that.

Is the disk already encrypted? If so, you will need to find a way to decrypt the drive. If you can't get it to install after updating. Probably using a recovery CD. You can find a link for recovery images for PGP Desktop 10.x here:

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH15260

If that doesn't work, try following this guide:

HOW TO: Manual Uninstall - PGP Desktop 9.x and 10.x

    Thanks,

    Ben

make sure the account executing the command has full local administrator access, as well as is member of the WDE admin group.

please write the command being executed
