how much time has it been?

can you upgrade.bat om SEPM and tehn try exporting the package and see if it helps?

    1. Login to the SEPM console

    2. Go to the Admin > Client install packages

    3. Define your Client Install Settings to "Maintain all previous logs, policies, and client-server communication settings".

    4. Export a client package with your client install settings created in point 3 (to keep previous settings and policies), select "Export a managed client" without selecting a client group

This will export a client install package with default settings and will retain the previous configurations during the installation.

Note: If any corruption of data/client installation occurs in the machine, when the installation attempts to fix itself, it may require data that is in the installation package and this may cause the client to receive the default policies.

    • Repair the installation of Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager from Cd1\SEPM Folder.
    • Run Management Server Configuration from C:\Program Files\Symantec\ Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\Bin\upgrade.bat
    • Use Migration and Deployment Wizard and it will create package now
    • From Admin > Install Packages> Client Install Packages also try to export the package

Had the same issue and was resolved by running the upgrade.bat file as well. Thanks!

I found (per a previous post) that this will happen if you do not upgrade the SEP client on the SEPM.  I upgraded the client to 12.1 and was able to build new packages without issues.

Had the same issue, all my clients were going out of date and unable to update definitions.  Completed the above steps, all clients now up to date and I was able to export packages as well.

Did everything described above and still cannot export any client packages. It just hangs on "Retrieving the package data from the server..."

It will sit there forever until I hit cancel. I've let it run for several hours.

    HEYYYY-O!

    win 2k3 on vmware

Exact same issue here.  Had to run upgrade.bat to get sucessful exports.  Never had this issue w/ previous upgrades... come on Symantec. Give us a freaking upgrade option from inside the manger and make this more seamless.  And don't make me open a seperate app to backup the database.  It's 2012, get with it!
