We are using Symantec Protection for Sharepoint Servers with the Symantec Scan Engine to protect our SP 2007 content. Is there a SCOM (Microsoft System Center Operations Manager) or MOM Management pack available for these products?

If not, has anyone implemented monitoring these products with SCOM or MOM with custom developped Management Packs?

Or, are there other people who share the need to monitor SPSS and SE with SCOM or MOM?

Can Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager be monitored by Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM)?

It is possible to create a MOM pack that can check the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager health status. The MOM pack can use the following two URLs to check health:

See the following URL for guidance on MOM pack creation: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/business/support/library/cc180887.aspx.

    Hi Myddvai,

I have been unable to find any document about SCOM and those two Symantec products: other members of the community will have more experience with them than I do, and may be able to answer more definitely.

The only SCOM Idea (proposed enhancement request) listed at the moment is https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/idea/sep-management-pack-microsoft-scom-system-center-operations-manager - creating an idea for SCOM and SE and for SCOM and SPSS would be a good idea. If many people agree that this would be good to have, then product management may take it into consideration.

    Hope this helps!

    Thanks and best regards,

    Mick

I checked with my colleagues that manage the antivirus and they said it's not possible to manage Symantec Protection for Sharepoint Server and the Scan Engien from SEPM.

    Is this correct?

If it is, then I still don't know how to monitor my Sharepoint protection and Scan Engine through SCOM/MOM.

If they are wrong, can anyone point me to a document describing how to use SEPM to manage SPSS and SE?

    Myddvai

That is correct, you can't mange SPS or ScanE from the SEPM. I guess that possiblity will be in the comming release och protections center. We have ben suffering in years.

    Hi Myddvai,

Yes, that is correct.  The SEPM is for managing SEP clients on Windows and Mac platforms.  Other Symantec products have their own means of management.

There is an intiative underway to provide one console for many products: Symantec Protection Center.  Please see documentations for SharePoint and Scan Engine to determine if they can snap in to the SPC at this point.

    Thanks again,

    Mick
