I'm trying to install the trial ware for Symantec endpoint protection mobile edition. I have created a installation package in Symantec Installation Manager but when I go to run the package it just opens up Symantec Installation Manager and does not install anything. I have tried selecting Install New Products but it does not list Symantec Mobile Security Solution anywhere in the list even when all the filters are set to none.

Any help would be appreciated thank you.

    Hi NickMcA,

Getting the Symantec Management Platform / Altiris Notification Server set up for the first time can be tricky.  Have you see this article?

How to set up the management components of Symantec Endpoint Protection Mobile Edition (SEPME)

Very important: what computer are you putting the Symantec Installation Manager (SIM) on?  And is this the same server where you hope to set up the SEPME management console?  Can you provide this server's specifications?  If it does not meet certain requirements, then SIM may not operate in the way described in teh manual and articles.

One additional note: the release of the new product, Symantec Mobile Security 7.2, is expected quite soon.  It might be a good idea to wait until that is available and install the trial of that new version.

    Hope this helps!  &: )

I finally got the most up to date product list and got everything installed but it is only allowing me to create policies for Windows phone and Android. I really need to create policies for iOS since that is all we are running.

    Hi Nick,

SEPME 6 has AV protection for these OS's:

Operating Systems Support for Symantec Mobile Security Products

The new Symantec Mobile Security 7.2 (SMS 7.2) protects Windows Mobile and Android.

At present, there is no "SEP for iOS" product. (For details on whether iPads need AV, check out  Symantec's "The Current State of Mobile Device Security") Here's an article on the subject of SEPME and iPhones:

Symantec AntiVirus Product for the iPhone and iPad Platform

The product that I recommend for iOS is "Symantec Mobile Management" - here's some features.

    • Heterogeneous Device Support: Comprehensive visibility and control over iPhones, iPads, Androids and other popular devices with a scalable mobile device management software solution
    • Enablement: User-friendly enterprise activation process for enrollment, deployment and configuration of mobile devices, applications and content
    • Security: Policy controls from passwords and remote wipe to application restrictions and certificate distribution
    • Management: Mature platform with complete asset management functionality, multi-tenancy, role-based- access- control and unified endpoint management

Hope this helps!  Please do update this thread with news of whether this has answered the question, or if there is anything additional needed.

1.Go to the Endpoint section of the Symantec website (see Resources below for link).

2.Download the installation file for Endpoint Protection by clicking on the link beneath "Trialware" in the upper right corner. When the new window opens, scroll to the bottom of the page and click the "Download Now" button. Click "I Agree" on the "Terms and Conditions" page, and then sign in to begin the download. If you do not have an account at Symantec, enter your email address and desired password to create an account so that the download will begin.

3.Save the installation file to the server. When the download begins, you will be asked if you want to save the file or run it. Save the file to a location on the network server that needs to be protected. Make note of the location the file has been saved to.

4.Run the installation file. Log into any network computer as the administrator. Click "Start" and then "My Network Places." Surf to the location on the network server where the installation file was downloaded. Double-click the file to install Endpoint Protection. Endpoint will now be protecting all computers that pass through this server for access to the Internet.

Hi Richard and other followers of this thread,

Just a quick clarification: Symantec Endpoint Protection Mobile Edition 6 is for Symbian (Nokia phones) and Windows Mobile phones/PDA's.  It sounds like you're describing the SEP 12.1 product, above, which is for Macs and Windows XP and up.  Definitely do not confuse one for the other! &: )

I recommend the newly-released SMS 7.2 as well, rather than SEPME 6.0, for new trialware downlaods.  SMS 7.2 has protection for Android OS as well, which is the platform for where the bad guys are developing most of the mobile malware these days.

    Hope this helps!

    With best regards,

    Hi TruthHealth,

(you may be best off creating a new thread for this new topic.)

Can you provide the exact vesion of software you have installed on the Tablet and on the Altiris server?  Does the Android Tablet receive its updates from internet LiveUpdate servers or from an internal LiveUpdate Administrator?

    Thanks in advance!

Just adding an update to this thread.... Symantec presently has two AntiVirus products for defending Android (and Symantec Mobile Management, which has important security features).  The following article descrbes these two products and can help users choose which one is best suited for their needs.
