    Hi,

    go to:

    http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index.jsp

and in the search field put "failed to connect to the server".

Read the results and if they don't help, please, attach here these two logs:

    \programs\symantec\SEPM\tomcat\logs\catalina.out and scm-server-0.log

    Regards,

There are multiple reason for error failed to connect to the server.

As Giuseppe suggested please upload the log then we might be able to provide you some suggestions.

As the error is java -1, most probably the logs required would be "scmserver0.log"

Also make sure that the size of catalina.out is 3KB.

    Hi,

The first step should always be to check the scm-server-0.log file in the sepm\tomcat\logs folder.

Also check the catalina.out logfile. It may contain info if there is a port conflict on the server.

In the scm-server-0.log, you will find the error in the line, just before the indentation changes!!

Also, f you have upgraded the SEPM, then you will have upgrade.log . That log is extremely useful in case of troubleshooting Java 01 in SEP SBE 12

Please post the error message from the logs above, and then we can decide the steps ahead.

    Cheers,
    Aniket

    • Php
    • And if you are working with a SQL database you need to be sure that is corretly installed the Sql Client." the last time for me it was the problem"

You can find many doccument about it but is better get the log first.

I agree with Aniket, SCM- SERVER-0.log will give the exact reason for "Failed to connect to the Server".

If you can post/attach that log will be good to figure out the reason.

       If you are having:

    Event ID: 4096

    Source: SemSrv

Description: The Java Virtual Machine has exited with a code of -1, the service is being stopped.

Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager" service crashes with a Java -1 error recorded in Event Viewer.

    SCM-Server-0.log:

    HTTP 401 Unauthorized, URL: http://localhost:8014/secars/secars.dll?action=34

    Unexpected server error. ErrorCode: 0x10010000

    Windows Event Viewer Application Log:

    Follow this steps:

    1. Go to Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager install location.
    2. By defaut it is on "C:\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager(SEPM)"
    3. Right click on SEPM folder go to Security Tab and Add Authenticated User and Everyone and give Full Permission
    4. Open IIS and Expand Default Website and Right Click on Symantec Website and go to Properties
    5. Click on Directory Security Tab and click on Edit Button for Authenticated and Access Control option
    6. Make a check mark for Integrated Windows Authenticated Option and Apply and click OK.
    7. Restart the IISAdmin Service and Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager Service
    8. Should able to Log in into the SEPM

    Also check the Following KB,

"Java -1" error in event log and the error "Failed to connect to server" at login, with HTTP 401 in scm-server-0.log, HTTP 401 1 0 in IIS Logs
