Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) adds support for Windows 10 with 12.1.6 MP1.

For Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1, a maintenance patch has been released on July 29, 2015. Customers will need to be current on maintenance to receive the maintenance patch update. For more information, visit our SEP 12.1 Windows 10 Knowledge Base.

You can upgrade to Windows 10 with Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1.6 MP1 installed. You must uninstall earlier versions of Symantec Endpoint Protection. The operating system upgrade stops if it detects an earlier version of Symantec Endpoint Protection.

The following operating system upgrade paths are supported with 12.1.6 MP1 installed:

    • Windows 8.1 to Windows 10
    • Windows 8 to Windows 10
    • Windows 7 to Windows 10

Even with the 12.1.6 MP1 update in place, I'm still being prompted by the Windows 10 upgrade process to uninstall Symantec Endpoint Protection.   Refer attached screenshot taken from a Windows 8.1 Enterprise 64-bit machine.

Are the definitions updated? Because as per INFO2746 you can upgrade to Windows 10 with Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1.6 MP1 or 12.1.6 MP1a installed, but you must first update Virus and Spyware Protection definitions to July 27, 2015, or later. Definitions as of this date include an update to the Eraser engine (115.1.1.10) that is required for Windows 10 compatibility.

How do i solve this problem? How do i update the Symantec Endpoint Protection software so it is compatible with windows 10?

    Thank you.

Call support and get the cleanwipe tool to do the uninstall.

Once that is complete then install 12.1.6 MP3.

Hi, I got into End Point Protection by way of Windows 10 Update. A notice popped up that I needed to Install the latest Update to Windows 10 (I had upgraded from Win 7 several months ago). I clicked to install the update but when I looked back for status I saw the message : the following programs must be uninstalled to be able to proceed with the update (wording not exact) and it listed 4 identical line of "Symantec Endpoint Protection".

I clicked on uninstall and shortly received a message that Update could not uninstall so they must be uninstalled manually with the same 4 lines listing SEP.

I had never heard of SEP before this. I could not find it as a program that could be uninstalled from the Windows uninstall facility. I called Symantec and eventually was told to download, unzip and run Cleanwipe. Cleanwipe gave me 3 options to choose from but the option I think I wanted also listed Antivirus, Network Access control, and Client Securitywhich I didn't want to erase. So I clicked on the SEP manager and Symantec Protection Center and ran it.

When it finished, I retried Win Update but got the same result.

Any ideas on how to resolve this without more effort than I've already put in? This is all due to a prompt to run Win Update, unbelievable...

    Thanks,

    Dave
