  • 1.  Symantec DLP agent won't install on Win 7 64-bit if UAC is enabled

Is this a known issue? Even though I right click and use run as administrator the DLP agent will not install on Win 7 64-bit. If I disable UAC, reboot, and then install the DLP client I have no issues.

    It's not a issue.

The installation of the DLP agent need the administrator rights of the system. As you know, the DLP agent will scan and protect the Windows machine, it cannot finish these work without the administrator rights.

As far as I know, 'Disable the UAC on Window Vista and Windows 7' is writen on the installation guide of the DLP agent.

It doesn't work correctly. When UAC is enabled and you install the agent via right click run as administrator it launches the UAC prompts you to allow it, click Yes/OK, then the cmd window appears and goes away. Nothing else happens. If you edit the .bat file and remove the silent switch on the .msi (/q) and try installing again you now get a error:

    Windows Installer Error:

This installation package could not be opened. Verify that the package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer package.

As soon as I disable UAC, reboot the system so it takes affect, I can install the DLP agent without any issues.

    Lippi,

Option 1:  You can download the documentation from Symantec File Connect with the serial number of a product.  If they "own" Vontu, they should be able to download it here.

    https://fileconnect.symantec.com

Option 2:  You can go to the KB and search for topics that suit your needs.

I don't know if I can legally attach files to this forum.  I will check.
