    Posted Mar 15, 2011 03:51 PM

After installing IE9 on WIN7 Ent laptop I am now encountering the following,

From within SEPM on the HOME page, when I click a number in "Action Summary by Detection Count" IE opens and closes 10 times then nothing.   ""   c   This worked fine this morning on IE8

This ran fine this morning on IE8.

It does not matter which number (Report) I select.   I am running the latest Java version and have cleared the Java temp files.

    Anyone?

You might be having enhanced security enabled on your IE9

there is problem with this version of IE as it stops virus definition update on clients.

being on IE8 for sometime will be ok as of now, new versions should take care.

when u right click on sepm console and select run as admin, does that work fine?

As far as I know, IE9 isn't supported in any of the current builds. Not sure when this will be resolved, but I've heard of a few different known issues that have been presented to Dev.

It is not compatible with IE9. At least that's what Symantec Support told me.

The current version of Internet Explorer 9 is beta/release which is not supported by Symantec. Keeping IE9 may cause further problems with connectivity between the SEP client and the Console and download of definitions via LiveUpdate if the SEP client is unmanaged. Please remove IE9 and return to IE8 as per the following article:

I have the same problem -

    >> "From within SEPM on the HOME page, when I click a number in "Action Summary by Detection Count" IE opens and closes 10 times then nothing..."

    OS: Win 7Ent SP1 32b.  IE9 Final
Problems with obtaining of virus descriptions on my computer now aren't present, at setting IE9 beta such problems were.

Which is the version of your SEPM.If it is not RU6MP2 try by upgrading to the same. There is a fix related to IE9 .That may solve your problem.

Resolved an issue where Internet Explorer 9 Beta prevents clients from downloading content from Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager
    Fix ID: 2167737
Symptom: After installing Internet Explorer 9 Beta, the Symantec Endpoint Protection client is no longer able to download content from Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager.
Solution: Code changes to support API changes made by Microsoft in Internet Explorer 9 Beta

    Earlier I wrote here -    v

    Here other problem is considered.

Ok.What I thought is there was some code changes  to support API changes made by Microsoft in Internet Explorer 9 Beta in this version. That is why I suggested to go for upgrade. Can you try to access the SEPM console from some other system with IE9 and see wheter it makes any difference...

    Enhanced Security is not enabled

    SEPM 11.0.6200.754 (RU6 MP2)

So SEPM is behind the curve thereby reducing functionality.  Interesting customers have to work around Symantec instead of the other way around <venting>!  How long was IE 9 in beta?

And if I may add, loose java!

I am running IE9 and SEP console MR5. Work fine so long as you run the console as administrator.

Simply right click icon and select "run as administrator" or if you prefer go into the properties of the shortcut and set it to run as administrator always.

IE9, SEP 11.0.6300, both server console and remote console on local workstation. Still blinks 10 times.

Is the fix to revert to IE 8? IE 9 came in the most recent Windows update on Patch Tuesday ....

The only thing that worked for me was to downgrade to IE8.

Granted, IE9 had only been released as FINAL 2 days before your post, but as a Symantec employee I'd expect you to fact check your statements before posting. The problem with SEPM persists. Can you please give an indication when a patch addressing this issue will be released, or at least whether or not this is already actively being worked on? Thanks.

Same problems here.  XP with IE8 works.  Win7 with IE8 works  Win7 with IE9 does not work (32 or 64).  Tried on mulitple machines.  Only fix is to revert to IE8.  ...and not everyone in Symantec support seems to be aware of the issue.  I spent HOURS with tech support and now have an open case.  I should get a call on Monday, but have emailed what I found out to the tech.

    Oh well.......

Open IE9 to any page.  Click on Tools--> Compatiblilty Settings.  Enter the IP address of the SEP server in Compatibilty View Settings "ADD THIS WEBSITE"   and click ADD.

    ..works for me!

Adding the IP address to the compatability settings (it autopopulated to Symantec and port 8014) fixed my problems.  Thank you Emauss.  BTW:  This also fixed the problem with reports.

Running SEPM version: 11.0.6300.803 on the server, but I had to add "localhost" instead of the IP to make it work.

    Thanks!
