  • 1.  Site servers showing Altiris Agent Shutting down

I have two site servers that show the Altiris Agent as shutting down and none of the clients recognize the current site server.  I have rebuilt the site server once and it is doing the same thing, any ideas?

There's some config you need to do to Windows 2008 Site Servers:

“Best Practice: Managing Task Server Communications in 7.0 and 7.1”:

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO48411

“Installing Task Server in IIS 7.0 or 7.5”

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO47804

On Windows 2008 R2 add the following Roles and add the Role Services to the defaults (accept all prompts for further required role services):

    • File Services
    • Web Server (IIS), add the following Role Services to the defaults,
      • ASP.NET
      • Application Development > ASP
      • Security > Windows Authentication
      • Management Tools > IIS 6 Management Compatibility and all sub options
      • Common HTTP features > Static Content
      • Common HTTP features > Directory Browsing
    • Application Server
      • .NET Framework
      • IIS Support

Then, once Task and/or Package Service has installed:

    • IIS Manager > Sites > Default Web Site > Altiris > Client Task Server > Advanced Settings > Application Pool > Classic .NET AppPool
    • IIS Manager > Application Pools > DefaultAppPool > Advanced Settings > Enable 32-bit Applications > True
