  • 1.  SEPM over deployed

    Posted Jun 26, 2012 03:10 PM

So i am running SEPM 12.1 and i currently have 250 seats licensed. I have purchased 70 more licenses 2 weekes ago however they are taking forever to arrive. Anyways, i was wondering what happens if i get overdeployed? IVe gotten the automated email a few times and had to uninstall SEP on some backup, master imaged machines. What i wanted to know is how does being overdeployed effect my environment?

    Anything will help, thanks!

You will only got the notice email of over deploeyed. you can still use SEPM to manage all your clients. And of course, if you do not purchase any more licenses, You will face Legal issues. however, you've purchased 70 more licenses. so  you don't need to worry.

    Hi;

I agree with Leo. Symantec use ethical licensing. The over deploy message just a notification for you. After you receive your addtional license you need only to install it to SEPM.

in case of over deploying those clients can work normally..

only this message banner will appear that you have to licence those clients.

The new licenses should be with you very soon, Till that time in case if your SEPM gives you a message of over deployment do not worry the clients would continue to function and would get the definitions update till you update your new licenses.

Till that time if in case you may want to contact the licesning team

    Hello,

For 12.1 SBE, over deployed clients cannot download definitions. Plus there is a Grace count.

For 12.1 Enterprise Edition, over deployed clients work normally. However you would keep receiving an alert notification for the same.

In both situations, the clients appear in the console.

    Hi,

It depneds upon which SEP product (EE OR SBE) you are using.

SEP 11.x licensing is basically just a "paper" license product.  However, with SEP 12.1 the licensing is a "software" license product and uses a  license file.  It is important to become familiar with this license concept.

In SEP 12.1 there are two types of enforcement.

    Types of enforcement

When the license goes out of compliance the Symantec Endpoint Protection product goes into enforcement mode. There are two types of enforcement

    1)  Hard Enforcement: SEP 12.1 Small Business Edition (SBE)

    • Content update downloads stop for both server and clients. In Small Business Edition it's 1:1 mapping with CAT server.
    • UI changes and log notifications are started.

    2)  Soft Enforcement: SEP 12.1 Enterprise Edition (EE)

    •  Content update downloads continue from all the sources.
    •  UI changes and log notifications are started.
