SEPM not able to download latest definition from symantec site

  • 1.  SEPM not able to download latest definition from symantec site

    Hi,
       i have installed SEPM 12.1.2015.2015 in our office and all the clients are connected to server . The problem i am facing is the clients are not getting latest definitions update from server.
    So i narrow my troubleshooting by checking the server , then i noticed that the SEPM iteself not getting updates from symantec site .
    i confirmed this by checking in windows definitions column

    Latest from Symantec: Information is currently unavailable
    Latest on Manager     : Information is currently unavailable  

    so i run liveupdate manually but it show a error " LiveUpdate encountered one or more errors. Return code = 4 ".

    check whether it is able to reach Symantec Liveupdate site.

    have you blocked anything on proxy?

    check this link

    hi,

    i can able to access following websites from my server

    1. Liveupdate.symantecliveupdate.com
    2. Liveupdate.symantec.com
    3. Symantec.com

    did you follow the suggestions from the link above?

    post the liveupdate log from SEPM

      i have one doubt " liveupdate won't work if the SEPM is not activated or not registered "

    Hi,

    Thank you for posting in Symantec community.

    Need to check log.liveupdate logs.
    Log.liveupdate could be found in - 
    Windows 2003: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\LiveUpdate
    Windows 2008: C:\ProgramData\Symantec\LiveUpdate
     
    Return code = 4 is very commonly seen however check the following article.
     
    Do you see any error in the event viewer?
     
    Error: LiveUpdate encountered one or more errors. Return code = 4" in LiveUpdate status in Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager. Try to run liveupdate manually you may face different error message.
    To run it manually go to  Start --> Run --> Luall.exe

    Hi Folks,

    Thanks for your replies.

    I would like to close this post by adding the steps which i had done for solving this issue.

    In my Case, the reason why SEPM is not getting latest definitions from symantec site is it cannot able to connect to symantec site due to proxy server we have in our network which is not configured in SEPM.

    so i manually added the proxy server details in SEPM.

    The path for adding proxy details are below

    1. Login to the SEPM -> Select Admin -> Select your server name -> Click Edit server properties -> go to proxy tab -> In HTTP proxy settings , click " use custom proxy setting " under Proxy usage -> Then enter proxy ip address and port numbers -> then Click OK

    2. Now manually run live update.

    3. Wait for few minutes to download latest definitions file from symantec site.

    4. after some time SEPM will have the latest definitions.
