  • 1.  SEPM database migration to SQL 2008 question

    Posted Mar 27, 2013 11:18 PM

    Hi,,

I've migrated SEPM 12.1 database from SQL 2005 to SQL 2008 new server..it was successful..However, I need to double check what do i need to do on the SQL client installed on my SEPM server. It is still running on SQL 2005. Do I need to uninstall and install the SQL 2008 client? or no need? or can I upgrade it? or just leave it as it is.

Another question is, will my previous backup works in case I need to use it in disaster recovery. I ran that backup when my SEPM is still using SQL 2005. Now that I'm running SQL 2008..can I use thesame backup for restoration?

    thanks,

Use the 2008 SQL client . Also make the latest DB copy from the existing DB version.

    Hello,

The SQL Native client component installed on the SEPM machine has to be migrate to the Latest version of  SQL 2008 as well.

Secondly, In terms of Backup, your older backup may work with the older version of SQL.

However in present situation it is recommended you to have the Latest backup of the Database which would with the Latest SQL.

    Hope that answers.!!

    Hi,

Agree with Mithun, SQL Native client component installed on the SEPM machine has to be migrate to the Latest version of  SQL 2008 as well.

There should not be any problem to restore SQL 2005 database into the SQL 2008.

Next SQL backup schedule should take the latest version backup.
