SEP + NAS issue

I installed Bufallo Linkstation Pro Duo NAS. Im having problems with SEP (unmanaged client)  blocking NAS. If i disable SEP i can access NAS. Im wondering if there are ports that i would have to open on SEP firewall. Please advice. Thanks

    I use SEP 12 version.

    Thanks

I had a similar problem, and it was not related to the Firewall.

My problem was Application and Device control.  An externally connected NAS (by ethernet or Fiber) is considered a "generic storage volume".  This falls under the same category as a USB device.  If you are blocking Storage Volumes, you will not be able to access the device and/or see it as a network drive/volume in the OS.

Are you using Application and Device control?

    Jason,

I do not use Application and Device control component.

How are you connecting to the NAS device?  UNC/Web interface/Name?

It is connected into a switch/router or directly into the PC?

NAS is connected to Linksys switch and i do use web interface.

I tried to install application and device component but it cannot see it.

I have Windows 7 home premium 64 bit. I have 64bit version of SEP 12.

I can see Proactive Threat Protection and SONAR component but no App and Devices.

Im afraid that option is not available in unmanaged client ?

    Thanks

I read the manual for this machine and I don't really see any reason you cannot access it.

Did you change the Default port 80 for communications?

Are you going through the Buffalo website to access the machine or the local IP address of the machine (Buffalo)?

    Internet Explorer or Firefox?

You should try to disable the "browser intrusion prevention" Add-on in Internet Explorer, that might help...

What component of SEP are you disabling so that you can access the NAS again?

If you can narrow this issue down to one particular component (e.g., the firewall), then we can provide better recommendations on how to remedy the issue.

The simplest way to do this would be to open the SEP client, and select Options next to one of the different protection technologies, and then select "Disable". Do this one at a time until you are able to access the NAS.

Let us know which technology you have to diable to access the NAS.

Sorry for late respond. For me to be able to access NAS via NASNavigator i have to disable Network Thread Protection in SEP. As soon as i enable NTP in SEP im not able to see NAS via NASNavigator.

NasNavigator 2.x uses UDP22936 when detecting available Buffalo NAS devices

If disabling NTP allows access, you should create an exception in the firewall to allow NasNavigator on the machine.

Thanks a lot, thats what i needed, correct port to open on firewall. As soon as i did open 22936, i was able to detect NAS via NASNavigator.
    Thanks
