  • 1.  SEP chokes MS OCS on Server 2008

We have a Windows 2008 Server that is running Microsoft OCS R2.  It was running fine until about 3 weeks ago.  Suddenly, everything in OCS slowed to a crawl.  Opening the program would take 5 minutes, opening a properties box would take just as long, and even clicking on another tab in the properties box would take multiple minutes.  I uninstalled SEP (version 11.0.5002.333) and it immediately returned to the speed you would expect.  Once I installed SEP again, the program immediately slowed to a crawl again.  It only seems to affect OCS, as I can open IE and surf web pages without issue while OCS sits at a dead stop.  I checked and memory, processor, hard drive access, etc all seem to be fine.  Has anyone else seen anything similar to this?  Thanks.

Create Antivirus Exlusions for OCS server

In order to prevent corruption, you must also make sure that the folder in which you installed Microsoft Office Communications Server is not scanned. The following paths are the default locations of the installation folders for Microsoft Office Communications Server, depending on the version that you have installed:
    <drive>:\Program Files\Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007
    <drive>:\Program Files\Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2
Note The <drive> placeholder specifies the letter of the drive on which Windows is installed. By default, this is drive C.

I went through and set up the exceptions and it didn't make a difference.  I went so far as to disable SEP entirely from the taskbar and that didn't have any effect either.  I went so far as to stop the SEP, Symantec Event Manager, and Symantec Settings Manager services and it still didn't have any effect.  The only thing that seems to fix it is to actually uninstall the SEP client totally.

One thing I did notice was that the only other thing that seems to be affected is AD Users and Computers (this server isn't an AD server, but OCS connects into AD).  I opened Computer Management, Server Manager, Services, etc without any issue.  When I opened AD User and Computers, it hung for about 5 minutes before it finally opened.  Could SEP be somehow affecting the connection to AD?

Create exclusions for that aswell using this KB :http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822158

    Also disable Tamper Protection.
