  • 1.  SEP 12.1 - move to another drive? Space issues.

    Posted Apr 26, 2012 08:08 AM

    Hi all,

I have a server running SEP 12.1 that is running out of space on the C: drive (the symantec folder is about 15gb).  I moved all the files I could out of C:, and did the "previous versions" and "database maintenance" steps that I've found elsewhere on this site.  There is still a space issue - I have about 1.5gb free space remaining on C:  (as an FYI, I also moved the pagefile from C: to another drive to buy space).

How can I move the install from the C: drive to another drive (D:) that has much more space?  I have about 100 clients and do not want to have to uninstall/reinstall them obviously.

    Any help greatly appreciated,

    Rob

    2 Situations can Help .

Either Fresh install of Sepm to Another drive which has larger space by taking backup of data and server certificates or move the content as mentioned in link below .

is it the SEPM server or SEP client you talking?

if SEPM, follow DR steps and install on other drive.

    Hi Bradcentre,

If you are moving on same machine from C drive to D drive, you will not have to follow disaster recovery.

Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1: Best Practices for Disaster Recovery with the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager

    http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH160736

It's not required to uninstall / reinstall SEP clients.

    Hello,

In your case, it is very important to understand which File or Directory of SEP / SEPM using the Highest space.

Accordingly, we can diagnose the issue.

    Check these Articles:

Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager 12.1 database using a high amount of Hard drive space

    https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/articles/symantec-endpoint-protection-manager-121-database-using-high-amount-hard-drive-space

High Disk Space is being consumed by C:\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\data\outbox\Importpackage

    https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/articles/high-disk-space-being-consumed-cprogram-filessymantecsymantec-endpoint-protection-managerda

However, There are 3 ways for you-

    1) Disaster Recovery Process for SEP 12.1

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH160736

    2) Work on the Article provided below: (as suggested above by Swapnil)

How to use a new Drive/Partition to host the Symantec Endpoint Protection content directory without reinstalling

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH103808

    3) Shrink the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager (SEPM) 12.1 embedded database

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH185177

    Hope that helps!!

hi all - thanks for the prompt help.

I cannot do the step that moves "content" to another drive, since the destination drive has other data in it.  I have also done the steps Mr. Sanghavi recommended previously.

I think it would be best to do the disaster recovery.

From what I understand, the basic steps are:

    - backup the DB.

    - backup the disaster recovery file.

    - since it is the same server, I don't need to worry about the IP etc.

    - uninstall SEPM (does this require a reboot?)

    - install SEPM again, do the recovery.

    Does that look right?

    Thanks,

    Rob

uninstall SEPM (does this require a reboot?)

Sometimes it may(When you start re-installing.), mostly does not.

    Hello,

The steps sound right to me. However, here is the Article for you to check the steps-

What did you think about this Article? Could give it a try -
