  • 1.  SEP 10.0 and SEP 12.0 Virus pattern difference

    Posted Jul 12, 2013 09:50 PM

    Dear all,

We have two group of SEP.

Old PC XP install will SEP 10.0

Win 7 VDI is install with SEP 12.0.

We found that this week, the SEP 10.0 Virus pattern is kept on 2013/07/08 while the SEP 12.0 virus pattern date is on 2013/07/12.

Check with the System Log of SEP 10.0 Client, it run the live update every day.

When we manual run the live update in SEP 10.0, it said the symantec product is uptodate.

Why the virus pattern had so big difference between these two versions?

    Please kindly help.

    Ivan

No such product as SEP 10. Do you mean SAV? Both products should have the same date. One does not appear to be updating correctly.

SAV definition have been stopped to be published, hence that is the reason.

You should be upgrading those clients to SEP 12.1 RU3 which is the latest vesrion.

    Hello,

Are you talking about SEP 12.0 or SEP 12.1 ??

I believe you have already created a Thread on Symantec Forums:

    https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/sep-100-and-sep-120-virus-pattern-difference

There is a lot of difference between the Symantec Antivirus 10 and Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1.

The major difference is these are 2 different products having different features.

    SAV 10.x - Symantec Antivirus

    http://www.symantec.com/security_response/definitions.jsp?pid=scs

SEP 11/12.x - Symantec Endpoint Protection (Includes Antivirus, Host Firewall, HIPS,App & Dev Control,TruScan etc)

    http://www.symantec.com/security_response/definitions.jsp?pid=sep11_32

    http://www.symantec.com/security_response/definitions.jsp?pid=sep1213

So its not just Architecture but SAV was just simply antivirus but SEP is complete Endpoint Solution for Endpoints.

Secondly, SAV 10 is a End of Support Life (EOSL) product.

I would recommend you to run the current Latest version of SEP product . i.e; SEP 12.1.3001

    Hope that helps!!
