Is there documentation out there for this? I haven't had much luck finding anything.

    Specifically managing it, exceptions, etc.

Currently, Symantec says they support these distro's:

    Red Hat® Enterprise Linux 3.0 ES (RHEL3ES)
    SuSE™ LINUX Enterprise Server 9 (SLES9)
    Novell® Linux Desktop 9 (NLD9)

We have are not using these distro's however. Has anyone else been able to get it running on a different distro than listed above? Is it recommended for only the three above or is it a use at your own risk should you choose to put it on something different.

We support a lot more than just those...  See here for more details: http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/ent-security.nsf/docid/2005110716014248?Open&docid=2007864478170998&nsf=ent-security.nsf&view=docid

The AutoProtect and SymEvent code are kernel specific, but you will be able to install the other components onto most distributions and run manual scans without any problem.

You should also see in your SAVfL download that we now offer the ability for you to compile your own SymEvent and AP code, allowing you to support whichever kernels and distribution you need to.

    Thank you, Paul. Very helpful.

My last question is regarding: These distributions are supported on computers using Intel 486-, 586-, and 686-
    compatible CPUs.

Currently, we are using Xeon procs. Is this supported?

yes, fully supported, 686 is just the nomenclature used by the linux distributions to mean anything Post Pentium, which was the P5 (or 586)
