I have recently purchaesd a Samsung RC512 and after I have encrypted my computer with PGP i receive a black screen that says it is initalizing loader.... and will not load windows or a screen to log in with PGP. My question is, is 10.1.2(Build9) (PGP SDK 4.0.1)the same as PGP Desktop 10.1.2 SP2? And where can i find this version?

This issue was already addressed in SP2 (i see a note about SP2 in your post). For your reference PGP Desktop 10.1.2 SP2 is build 26 . Build 9 is the General Release, or what is commonly referred to as "GA".

I too purchased PGP Whole Disk Encryption and installed it on a Samsung SF511.  I started encryting the whole hard drive, but it froze when I took it off power.  It would not restart when I resumed power, and the only function that would work was to decrypt.  It initiated decryping but again it froze with 5.02% remaing. Now the GUI is frozen, I am unable to stop it, I am unable to reume decryption  Some advise here would be great.

I know that this might sound harsh. But if you didn't enable the "power failure safety" option when decrypting and you lost power to the disk. The drive may very well be undecryptable. The only other option you could try is to decrypt using a recovery CD, or hook it up to another machine that has PGP Whole Disk Encryption installed. I would make sure that it has the same version of PGP Desktop installed on it before attempting to decrypt.

our recovery images can be downloaded here:

Note: DO NOT LET THE MACHINE LOSE POWER WHEN DECRYPTING. YOU MAY WISH TO PUT THE MACHINE ON A BATTERY BACKUP/UPS WHILE DECRYPTING.

If that doesn't work, I'm sorry to say it. But it probably didn't have something written to the disk before loosing power which leaves a pointer telling PGP Desktop where to finish with decryption and what the last i/o operation was before loosing power.

Two things to always keep in mind with WDE:

    - Always have a good offline backup

    - Always be sure that you have a reliable power source when encrypting/decrypting a disk.

Thanks Ben - your advice worked perfectly...:-)  I decrypted via boot disk, and now I have encrypted the whole hard drive so its all good.  As a less technical user, I really recommend that you should make it more obvious in the GUI to users via confirmation boxes / tool tips that (1) it is highly recommended any encryption or decryption is done with the settings ticked for "Power Safetly Failure" (2) Under no circumstances should you intentionally unplug from AC Power during any encryption or decryption.  If I had of received these two messages when I first used PGP it would have saved me from this problem all together... Great product though...!!  ..  If.  .    fromff dd

I would recommend starting a new discussion to report that feedback. Be sure that you list it under PGP WDE for Windows so that the appropriate people see it.

With that being said, our PGP Desktop User's Guide talks about this on page 144.  Found here:

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/DOC455

Page 4 of our Quickstart guide covers the basics on power failure issues.

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/DOC455

Both are highly recommended reads before and after installing the software so that a user is familar with the product.
