  • 1.  Replication site with different SQL version

    Posted Mar 10, 2011 01:17 PM

    Hello,

We have main site where we are using SQL 2005 Enterprise(32-bit), and all its SEPMs are also running on Windows 2003 (32-bit).  Can we add replication partner site that has SQL 2008 Enterprise (64bit)?

Correct me if I am wrong, there is no 64-bit version for SEPMs?  That is SEPM, as of RU6a is only 32-bit application.

I am unable to locate any good document which guides in moving sql2005 (32-bit) to sql2008(64-bit), including steps needed at SEPMs so that clients-SEPM and SEPM-sql communication are not broken.

Any advise will be highly appreciated.

    Sincerely,

yes sepm is a native 32 bit app, but can run on 64 bit server.

sepm can be installed on 32 and 64 bit machines

Replication is independent of the SQL versions. As replication can happen between EMbeedded and SQL.

Correct me if I am wrong, there is no 64-bit version for SEPMs?  That is SEPM, as of RU6a is only 32-bit application.

SEPM can be installed on 64 bit OS.

I am unable to locate any good document which guides in moving sql2005 (32-bit) to sql2008(64-bit), including steps needed at SEPMs so that clients-SEPM and SEPM-sql communication are not broken.

    Hi,

    As per your comment

    1) "We have main site where we are using SQL 2005 Enterprise(32-bit), and all its SEPMs are also running on Windows 2003 (32-bit).  Can we add replication partner site that has SQL 2008 Enterprise (64bit)?"

    --> Yes we can.

    2) Correct me if I am wrong, there is no 64-bit version for SEPMs?  That is SEPM, as of RU6a is only 32-bit application.

--> SEPM can be installed on 64 bit OS.

Use replication to install a new SEPM and keep the policy the same with old SEPM. See "How to move Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager from one machine to another" . I think this option you are looking for.

Note : As you have mentioned you have mulitple SEPM's, Replication is supported between 5 servers i.e one main server with 4 replication partners (1+ 4))
