We have a problem with Remote Control on all our clients from Deployment Console v. 6.8 b378 SP2. If we right click and selects Remote Control, Altiris just says "Waiting for clients to accept connection...". It doesn't matter if we try to control from our management workstations och directly from the Altiris server. The Deployment Server is otherwise working fine. Rebooting the server doesn't help. I can't remember having this issue on 6.5 (which we upgraded from last year). I searched this forum and found some other posts describing similar problems. Anyone know a solution to this? best regards Johan Lundgren

i hat this problem also, and solved it by checking the client settings. After a client update the remote control sessions waited for ever, because the user hat to acknowledge the session. But the screen did not appear. Set back your settings to 5 or 10 seconds. Then say yes if the user does not acknowledge or no if the user doesn't. If yes, the session will start. if no the sessison will not. Regards Erik www.dvs4sbc.nl

I've had this happen too. I've had to use computer management to remote into the target computer services and restart the AClient. Or restart using the Power Control feature. Or simply check the Aclient settings for this device, right click, and select Advanced and Get Inventory. Usually forces the client to update.

Also if you have VLANS make sure the port is not getting blocked. Try a test system on the same network. Have someone on your network team check traffic. Also change the client setting to not ask the user for testing. Maybe it is a problem with the popup. Curtis Windham ACC-Capitalholdings cwindham@acc-ch.com

We don't use VLAN:s. The network should not be the issue, all other applications is working fine. And besides, we can sometimes control the clients. We don't have the option to ask the client permission enabled.

I have somewhat of the same issue. We are using Deployment Console 6.8 build 378 service pack 2. We can use Remote Control on some workstations but others give a problem. The model workstation does not make a difference or new or old. We get this message: “Waiting for client to accept connection…” It just sits and hangs at this box. We have tried restarting the services on the client PC. We changed the settings for the Aclient to wait 10 sec then requesting connection. That box comes up and when you click connect it goes away and nothing happens on the server. We unchecked that option to not prompt the user. We have dedicated Vlans but it’s not that since it works on some computers. Rebooting the PC does not help.

I don't know if this is something, but I've had the same problem recently. I had to make sure that the firewall policy for my XP machines was allowing the Aclient program through the firewall. Also, I was trying to remote from a Vista machine and needed to make sure that it wasn't blocking incoming connections (in the Windows Firewall with Advanced Settings). Once I made sure those two things were addressed I started having success. This is something to make sure you check on your machine (whatever you're running Remote Control from) and the client machine. HTH, Colin

We saw a problem like this occasionaly in our enviroment too. We would be able to remote into some systems but not others. Once we hit like 5 or 6 that we could not remote into, then all of the computers would not be able to be remoted into. The only way we could fix this was to restart the eXpress service. Upon tracing the problem back, we found out that the problem stemmed from latency issues because we had our Database off box and used Network authentication instead of SQL authentication. Once we switched to SQL authentication, the latency issues went away and so did the problems with the remote control. Might be worth looking at if your database is off box.

Problem: Not able to remote desktop via altiris unless I was on a remote session or directly on the deployment server. I wanted to be able to use the locally installed Deployment Console I had installed on my machine. Everything else seems to work apart from this. The error was the same "Waiting for clients to accept connection..." and then nothing. The Fix: I'm not guaranteeing this will work for all of you but it did for me. Add this exception to the firewall of the machine with the deployment console; \\servername\express\eXpress.exe Ok.. Easy right... If you are having problems remoting from the server itself you most likely need to refresh the aclient. Also it appears that the Dagent on XP machines and even Vista seems pretty useless. In my experience remote will not work and it looses it's connection way too often.

I'm running DS 6.8 and when trying to remote control only 2 servers in my environment, I get "waiting for clients to accept connection..." and then "connected" showing in the lower right and "idle" in the lower left. I've tried restarting the aclient, rebooting the server, and restarting all altiris services on the DS server. While it's showing the "waiting for clients to accept connection" in DS, I RDP'd into the box and I see the blinking altiris icon in the system tray, as if I was successfully connected. Does anyone know how I can resolve this so I can actually remote control these two servers? To make things even weirder, one server is sitting right next to me, and the other is in San Diego. Any help would be appreciated!

It always seems after we upgrade, the clients will do this until they upgrade their AClient to the same version as the console. After they get the updated version (that matches the console), they then start allowing us to remote control them. Jeremy I. Boger MSD of Lawrence Township

We had problems with Remote Control too, and after testing out network connectivity and wiresharking it turned out that Remote Control worked best when logging into the server at the console (or RDPing with the console switch). I spoke to support about it, and I recall (though probably not accurately) that sometimes the remote control application has problems locating the right terminal services session to connect with. If you can't even do it at the console, get wiresharking. If you don't encrypt your AClient comms, you can pick up what port the remote control session is going to be carried over, and check it all out from there. A good test is of course to temporarily drop the client and server firewalls. Hopefully, the sessions will work then, so you can focus on these..... ;-) Kind Regards, Ian./

On Deployment Console 6.9 (Build 355), machine agent is 6.9.355

When the computer is booted, I cannot use DS remote control right off the bat.  It gives the "waiting for clients to accept connection" window and times out.

Two things allow me to remote control.

    1. If someone happens to be logged in to the computer, I have them log out and then I am able to remote control.

    2. If no one is logged in, I log in and can then remote control.

Also, sometimes when I'm remote controlling a computer, and i disconnect and try again a bit later, I cannot remote control it again unless I try 1 or 2 above.

This isn't a solution, just maybe another clue...

This thread is old, but just logging for others  that this is still a problem on DS6.9SP2

And, Nick Thompson's advice on restarting the eXpress service though severe, still works to get around the issue.

    Kind Regards,
    Ian./
