  • 1.  question regarding "Display a warning when virus definitions are outdated"

    Posted Aug 03, 2011 10:05 AM

    Hi all,

I have a question regarding the notification for outdaded virus definitions (AV policy -> Miscellaneous -> Notifications). We have enabled it for our environment and set to 5 days. When the user's machine was offline for more than 5 days and then connected to the network, will the message pop-up after SEP services start and also will it pop-up only once or periodically until the definitions are updated.

The question I was asked by the customer is: "Is it possible that the Warning Message will appear after the boot and logon to the domain or after antivirus checked if update was not successfully."

    Thanks

Assuming it has the new policy, it would appear once the machine is booted and services started.

On the message, there will be a checkbox that says don't warn me again until after next updates. The can chose that option if they wish or leave as is.

Once the client receives this policy it sores locally. So even if the client not able to connect to management server, it will give warning in the client system.

    Hi Brian,

If the user select the box "Don't warn me until after next updates", what exactly does it mean, the next heartbeat or next reboot of the machine? And also if user does not select this box, when he will receive again the notification?

    Regards

It won't warn again until the defs go out of date again.

Yes, they will continue to receive the notification until defs get updated. When I've seen it, it's pretty consistent when it happens. Log out and back in, it comes up or upon reboot.
