  • 1.  Proxy DHCP service did not reply to request on port 4011

I am trying to get 3Com Services in such a manner that I can boot with my PXE enabled panasonic laptop. My client is getting "proxy dhcp service did not reply to request on port 4011 message.  As the screen flashes by it shows that in fack an IP addresses has been dished out.

I have my Ghost server separate from my DHCP server with the proxy option checked.

    Any insights I can use?

    thanks.

    Hi DPS,

it looks like pxe server and hdcp configuration issue.
ghost server can be separate from DHCP server so it should be ok.
how did you setup your 3com pxe server?
here is the link which will give you more info on setting up pxe server.

if you can tell us bit more about your dhcp and pxe server settings, it would be helpful to diagnose the issue.
note that pxe server have to be on the same subnet as your pxe client.
    thanks.

Thanks - I didnt realize that it was that restrictive that I would have to put it on the same subnet.  In the course of waiting for your reply I disabled "option 60 also".  That took away the port problem but I still didn't get an IP.  I recieved a "not received boot file message".

I will have to move my server it seems to be able to take advantage of pxe as my current server is on a dedicated server subnet.

    thanks again.

I am having the same problem. Does the pxe server need to be on the same subnet? if so is there any way to make it work over subnets? Right now I have the 3com pxe server runing on my machine connected to a switch I also have the computer I want to pxe boot from on the same switch. DHCP server is in on a differnt computer on another subnet. The client computer grabs the pxe fine and ghost boots. When I go to another building here and try to do the same, the computer never gets an ip address from the pxe server. on the pxe server it looks like this

    11/14/2007 10:19AM - PROXY: [0015C55C29FF] [??????????????????]
    11/14/2007 10:19AM - PROXY: [0015C55C29FF] [??????????????????]
    11/14/2007 10:19AM - PROXY: [0015C55C29FF] [??????????????????]
    11/14/2007 10:2oAM - PROXY: [0015C55C29FF] [??????????????????]
    11/14/2007 10:2oAM - PROXY: [0015C55C29FF] [??????????????????]
    11/14/2007 10:2oAM - PROXY: [0015C55C29FF] [??????????????????]

    and thats all
The TFTP server doest even get talked to.
