I have Symantec Endpoint Protection version 11.0.780.1109. I am having trouble with Proactive Threat Protection. The error message states that &quot;Protection definitions are too old for Proactive Threat Protection. Click Fix to update protection definitions.&quot; I did this several times, rebooted the computer, and still get the same error message. Do I need to do something else to enable the Proactive Threat Protection?<br />

You need to upgrade off that old build ASAP. I beleive that version is the first release of SEP. There are hundreds of fixes since that version was released 14 builds ago.

    Hi Rigger,

The first thing that I would recommend doing is to migrate your SEP client to the latest available version.  The version that you are running is several years old.  The latest available, SEP 11 RU6a, contains several thousands of fixes, enhancements and improvements.

Migrating to Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0 RU6
    (http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/ent-security.nsf/docid/2010041310404248)

Two additional questions will enable the forum to better help:
    1. What OS is SEP installed on?  (PTP has limited ability to function on server OS's)
    2. How does this client receive its updates- directly from the Internet?  From an internal LU server?  Or from a SEPM?
    Thanks and best regards,

    Mick

If you just want to resolve that issue you can do it by going into add or remove programs and click change next to symantec endpoint protection. Then select modify  and ok, then click on the disc looking icon next to proactive threat protection and select the red check to make it not selected then click next and install, then do the same thing and reselect proactive threat protection and click next then install and it will install the feature again. This should resolve the issue. Then you can upgrade at your convenience but I would recommend you do it ASAP since the version you are using has been addressed with vulnerabilities to virus.
