    Hey,

One of my clients upgraded to SEPM 12.1 and is now showing a few machines over-deployed in licenses.  We're looking for any phantom clients taking up extra space.  I'm wondering, however, what happens to the extra workstations in the meantime.  Do they not pull down virus def updates?  Do they show up in the manager?

    Thanks!

For 12.1 SBE, over deployed clients cannot download definitions.

For 12.1 "normal", over deployed clients work normally, you just get nagged on the SEPM

In both situations, the clients appear in the console.

I had overdeployed systems myself, this is how I fixed it, may help in your case.

First, make sure all the licenses are accounted for. I found 100 licenses in another employees License Portal. I also edited the database properties under Admin/Servers and told it to delete clients that haven't been in contact for the past day. Doing those things, I went from 180 over capacity to 150 under, and took the delete setting back up. Right now I'm sitting at about 120 under.

    Paul,

I just want clarification to make sure...

If we go over our license count in SEP 12.1 Enterprise, we get nagged in the SEPM Console but otherwise everything else still functions normally? This is important as I need to have a full understanding of the behavior before upgrading. (Obviously I have no plans to exceed our license count, but still need to understand the ramifications should it happen.)

I called Symantec about this yesterday. I was told the same thing. With SEP 12.1 Enterprise, you can go over the license count but clients will still function normally and the SEPM will only nag you.

Do you happen to know if it only nags full administrators? Or do limited administrators also get nagged?

I believe if the limited admin does not have group rights and feature rights, they will not be able to see reporting data so they won't get nagged,

Hmmm... okay. I would really love to test it, but we have tens of thousands of clients. I doubt I'd easily be able to artificially exceed our limit in testing. laugh
