Out of disk space when installing on Thin client Win7 Embedded

Has anybody else experienced the problem of not having enough disk space on a Win7 embedded thin client?

We recently upgraded our sepm from version 12.1.1 to 12.1.2, to fix a SEP space issue problem mainly on our thin clients.

The thin clients have roughly 1.2 GB available free space and we attempted to push the upgrade to them, but it failed due

to low disk space.  According to the 12.1.2 Admin documentation, 850mb of free space is required to complete the install.  I

thought we could minimize the footprint of the install by only selecting the antivirus protection component; however, Symantec

support stated it actually installs all of the components and just activates those requested.

    Hello,

It seems this is a continuation to your previous Thread:

    https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/insufficient-disk-space-windows-7-standard-thin-client

Could you please let us know what folder is using the highest disk space on the machine?

The folder is c:\programdata\symantec\symantec endpoint protection\12.1.2015.2015.105\data

    Thanks

Are you able to free up more space?

although 850 is the minimum required, you can still run into issues as the package may be compressed and be larger than what it is actually showing. I have issues from time to time with this an trying tp update virus definitions on systems running low on space.

    Hello,

Which folder within the c:\programdata\symantec\symantec endpoint protection\12.1.2015.2015.105\data

Is there anything else which is using a high disk space??

We need to figure a way to clear some disk space.

As a test, have you tried the instructions in this older article?

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH94839

It suggests pointing the TEMP directories at another location (USB drive or network folder) for the install and reverting back afterwards...

Another option is to remove SEP first, reboot, then install the latest version.  An upgrade attempts to do a side-by-side install in which case both versions are present on the disk (which obviously uses more disk space).

    Under the data folder here are the following folders with disk consumption stats;

    cashed installs - 106mb

    definitions - 468 mb

    lue - 181 mb

    Hello,

    These looks normal.

How much disk space do you have on the machine?

Secondly, Is there any other folder in the machine, probably in the Program Files (or anywhere else) which is carrying too much of disk space??

The thin clients have a 4GB flash drive and normally have 1.4 GB free after our standard software builds.

At this time we don't any other folders consuming large amounts of space.

I thought SEP would provide a smaller footprint, so instead of including the uneccessary components and making a smaller install, it loads the standard footprint which includes all components.

    Hello,

I believe, you may like to see this Article:

    Hope that helps!!

I had this same problem and I ran a script to set the TEMP and TMP varriables to a network drive, ran the install which worked just fine, and then set the varriables back. The problem is the install needs quite a bit more room to install than it does to run. Hope this helps

    Hi,

As per your comment, The thin clients have a 4GB flash drive and normally have 1.4 GB free after our standard software builds.

You should think to increase the free space after standard software build.

SEP 12.1 consume less space if we compared with SEP 11 version. SEP 12.1 does store only 1 definition at client machine.

KP...was it a new install you were performing or an upgrade?
