  • 1.  [NS] Task Server Installed / Inactive. What happened?

    Posted Jul 03, 2013 02:52 AM

Two days ago, Symantec Managemet Platform was working great. Deploy agents, sending task, collect inventory, everything was ok.

Yesterday, I tried to send a new task, i found out tasks don't start. Have a look:

    jobs_tasks.PNG

The status stays as "not started" for a while and doesn't change! That's weird.

Then, I went to configuration settings of NS, and found out this:

    errortask_0.PNG

The Task Service is "installed, inactive". I dont know what happened, since this was working fine a day ago.

Any ideas about the problem? Corrupted service, user authentication failure, anything?

PS: I'm looking for a way to active this task service, but i havent found anything yet.

    Thanks in advance

    Hi harold,

On Windows 2008 R2 add the following Roles and add the Role Services to the defaults (accept all prompts for further required role services):

    •File Services
•Web Server (IIS), add the following Role Services to the defaults,
    •ASP.NET
    •Application Development > ASP
    •Security > Windows Authentication
•Management Tools > IIS 6 Management Compatibility and all sub options
•Common HTTP features > Static Content
•Common HTTP features > Directory Browsing
    •Application Server
    •.NET Framework
    •IIS Support

Then, once Task and/or Package Service has installed:

•IIS Manager > Sites > Default Web Site > Altiris > Client Task Server > Advanced Settings > Application Pool > Classic .NET AppPool
    •IIS Manager > Application Pools > DefaultAppPool > Advanced Settings > Enable 32-bit Applications > True

Installing Task Server in IIS 7.0 or 7.5

    1. We have to check the task status in SMA(symantec management agent) in that site server.

    2. It should point to its self.

    3. If not then we have to check with the task service.

    4. In which drive you have installed SMA?

    5. How did you install SMA and task service in that site server?

    6. According to the task status we can trouble shoot the issue

Let me know the status :)

Actually, the task service was installed and working fine.

One day, it stopped working. Now is "inactive" as it is shown in the image on the post!

    Hi haroldvm89,

Maybe the problem is related to the Certificate Revocation List (CRL) lookup

    Please check the following KB´s:

Unable to start Altiris Client Task Data Loader service:http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH192580

Resolving the Certificate Revocation List (CRL) lookup performance issue:http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO9585

    Hope this helps

My problem was solved by reinstalling Task Service manually, using a taskserversetup.exe file.

    Thanks you all!
