I am running an older version of Ghost Solution Suite and getting 19945 timeouts, so I downloaded the latest version 2.5 as a trial.

I use the Ghost Boot Wizard tool to create a Standard Ghost boot disk, running WinPE,  for my Dell Latitude E6420, with an Intel 82579LM NIC. On disk creation I added the 32 bit and 64 bit Vista drivers I downloaded from Dell.

When I boot the laptop with this disk the networking is not initialized (ipconfig shows nothing), so I can't connect to my Ghost cast server.

My networking is working fine, I can boot using my DOS V8.0 disk, with no problems getting an IP via DHCP, and no problems connecting to the Ghost cast server.

How do I get networking initialized during or after WinPE boots?

Good (Bad?) news, depending on how you look at it.  The 82579LM is a royal pain.  search the forums here to see the issues with it in GSS 2.5.1 using WinPE 2.0.  you may just need a different version of it...

Uncheck the drivers which you had added under the WINPE template.Download the drivers from the link mentioned below,

    http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/DriverDetails/Product/latitude-e6420?driverId=NNGMH&osCode=WLH&fileId=3287383074&languageCode=EN&categoryId=NI

Point to Extract_Folder\E1C\VISTA-x86 folder while adding the drivers (Provided the NIC model is Intel 82579LM).Make sure that the new driver s checked before proceeding with package creation.

    Maneesh, thanks that worked perfectly.

I also found another driver that worked. I downloaded 'Latest Intel Network Driver(16.8.1).zip' from https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/downloads/latest-vista-version-drivers-use-gss

After unzipping, I added the drivers in the Win32/NDIS61 folder to the WinPE image which allowed the Latitude E6420 to boot, initialize networking, and get an IP via DHCP.
