    Hi,

Does anyone have any SQL queries for finding Network Printers and their MAC addresses? I'm using Altiris Client Management Suite 6 but can only create a Summary Report which includes the Printer Name.

    Any advice welcome!

    Thanks,

the printers themselves? Otherwise, without an agent (which printers don't have) I doubt you'd get information about a printers MAC address.

You could always pull the information in via connector\CMDB, but that would probably be a bit of work.

Yea, by Network discovery. I can get IP address but that's all i'm getting. I was hoping there was some way of attaining the MAC address as we were going to Asset Tag the printers with the last 6 digits of the MAC address.

ICMP (probably only going to get you the IP), SNMP (need the community string), WMI?

within the Altiris Console i'm simply chosing the following reports to run within the Inventory Solution (version 6 sp3):

TCP/IP Network printers or All Network Printers.

I thought there may have been an option to query the MAC address of the printer.

(and should have noticed in your first post you're on v6). So, you options are a bit limited in v6. You can only do network discovery (limited to SNMP and ICMP, not WMI and other options v7.x have). Your other comment is right on, you'll need Inventory for Network Devices to get detailed inventory.

Thanks Jim. I was speaking to a guy who said the information could be obtained if i enabled SNMP on the printer and at Altiris and I should obtain this info, thou i'm not sure if our company have purchased Network Inventory / Discovery.

you can install it, and any licenses consumed by the above process would just 'eat' away at your Inventory licenses pool.
