    Posted Aug 04, 2008 02:40 PM

Here is the situation currently we have a ghost server already setup and has been working great but we are tired of having to wire 50 clients up everytime we have to push an image. How do I configure ghost to run wireless? I have a wireless router but don't know if there is a certain way it has to be configured. Please can someone either give me instructions or point me in the right direction.

    Hi darkknight84,

does your client machine use wireless?

as long as the client is not using the wireless network adapter, ghost should be able to work fine.

if the client is using the wireless network adapter, I don't think you can use any task running under dos.

unless there is a dos driver for wireless network.

    (I haven't seen any though).

hows your wirless router set up? if it is acting as a middle man between your networks, ghost console/client should work fine.

    Hi James,

The wireless adapter is not being used in the OS at all. I'm trying to boot the clients from the boot menu and access Ghost that way if that is even possible. The router is connected to the dhcp/ghost server which does act as the middle man. Do I need to setup a PXE server? The issue is getting the server to talk to the clients any suggestions.

    Hi darkknight84,

    |console machine| -----|wireless router|-----|local switch| ----- |client|

is above diagram similar to your environment?

I'm assuming that your client is connected local switch since client machine does not have wireless adapter.

if you want to boot the machine using network boot menu, yes, you need to setup a PXE server.

you can check network connectivity from windows first and try to use PXE server.

windows are much easier to diagnose network.

check whether your client can get the ip from DHCP server using wireless router.

if it can get he ip from windows, try to boot the client and get PXE boot menu.

    Hi James,

    The Diagram is like this

    Console Machine----Wireless Router|------------Client

I'm trying to get the client to connect to the wireless router using it's wireless adapter. When I hit F10 to access the boot menu on the client I don't see the wireless adapter there is there anyway to get the client's wireless adapter to detect upon bootup and then connect it to the wireless router which then will allow me to connect to ghost?

    Hi darkknight84,

unfortunatly, I don't think it will work in your environment.

I haven't seen any wireless adapter which has capability of PXE boot yet.

maybe it is too complicated at the moment to use wireless during the boot time.

(e.g. wep or security key exchange ... etc)

also I don't think you can configure wireless network driver under dos or winpe.

so even you can boot using wireless PXE somehow, ghost client would not work in this case.

sorry that there is no easy way to do this.

I would recommend to put another switch or hub between client and wireless router.

    thanks.
