  • 1.  Need Command Line for Uninstalling SEP 11 with Password

    Posted Feb 05, 2013 02:32 PM

    Hi,

I want to uninstall older version of SEP from few Client machines and install the Updated Version, I have the command line to uninstall the same, but the Problem is that the older versions are password protected and it requires a password to uninstall, but i have the password with me, my only problem is i need to remotely uninstall all the SEP old version hence i need a command line with the given password with which i can silently uninstall SEP remotely without any issue... Is there a command line to uninstall SEP with given password.. please let me know.. its really very urgent

    Thanks in Advance

try -p switch and add the password after it

    ex. -p password

Just note it is in cleartext

Looking at the official KB regarding the command line de-install it does nto say anything about password protected installations: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH102470

Maybe easier way would be to use the SEPPrep tool?:

Have a look here as well: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH184988

    Hi Syed,

    Please find the below notes.

    1) Are clients still reporting to SEPM. If yes then why dont we remove the password policy from SEPM.

Now I think that you may already know the above step.

    2) If you want to upgrade the clients why dont you try upgrading them instead of uninstalling and reinstaling back again.

    3) For some reason if you do not want to upgrade and still want to go with uninstall, then you can replace the sylink files on those client machines and then have them communicate with a test group on a SEPM which does not have a password policy set.

By this when client gets the new policy it will identify that password is not required for uninstalling and then you can go ahead with the uninstallation.

    - MASH

How many system you have the older version.

Better solution is that you can remove the password of that systems

    Ignore "<" and ">"

< smc -stop > in the run dialog box  for no password to stop the service
< smc - p password -stop > for a password set to stop the service
< smc -p "pass word" -stop > if the password contains spaces

Similarly to do it through batch

    Hello Syed Akram,

    Following article you can refer

How to uninstall Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) client silently using the command line

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH105827

In this article following note is important:

Considerations if an uninstall password is in place

If you set a password for client uninstallation, you cannot uninstall the client silently. Clients with an uninstall password are prompted for the password, which must be entered manually. To uninstall the client silently, disable the password.

Also no need to open registry of 100's of computers and find out the Product Code. For each SEP version there would be only 1 common code.

For example the key for Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1.671.4971 is A3AEEA68-AC93-4F6F-8D2D-78BBF7E422B8.

Cleanwipe should be use as a last resort.

Why don't you disable password from SEPM console & then run the script to uninstall SEP clients

Why don't you directly upgrade the clients

You can use competitive uninstaller as well.
