I am working on designing a multiple notification server environment for a client globally with Altiris 7.5.

The client has 3 child NS, one each at APAC, EU and AMER, with the site in AMER also houses the parent NS.

My query is around Cloud Enabled Management. Do we have to have 3 Internet Gateway Servers for each region?

Ideally, 1 Internet Gateway Server with a public IP address will suffice. But what happens when a client from one of the other sites conects to the internet gateway server at the parent site. Will the agent run tasks from its home site and NS or will it register itself with the NS closest to it in terms of BW and proximity?

    Thanks

If all 3 gateways are configured in agent's policy then agent will randomly select a gateway and if that gateway is available it will try to use it for as long as possible.

When connection to a gateway is lost the agent will try switching to another one, the lost gateway will get into the "bad gateway" list temporarily.

Each gateway has list of the associated NS-es, you should add NS-es using Internet Gateway Manger UI on each gateway machine, a gateway can only forward calls to NS-s it is aware of.

So if each of your gateways is aware of every NS in hierarchy, then any agent will be able to connecte to any NS via any gateway.

    Hoope that helps.

    How many clients are there?

Totally 11000 clients over 3 regions, with around 1000 clients at each region to be enabled for CEM.

The single gateway should server 3000 clients just fine, but depending on the connection speed between your regions and to introduce fault tolerance it's probably better to have two or even three. You can alwasy start with one and then add more if needed.
