  • 1.  Moving SEP client to a new SEPM/different Managed Server?

    Posted Oct 05, 2009 06:11 AM
    Hi,

If you have the SEP client happily talking to Server X,Y,Z, is there a way to move it to a differetn isntance of SEPM?

Our POC and Pilot will be on different servers and domain (trust between the 2) to production and don;t want to have to reinstall SEP clients if we can help it.

Anyway to point SEP clients to a different environment?

    Using RU5

    Thanks

Replace the Sylink file with the new SEPM Manager.

All the clients will be moved to new server.

Use SylinkReplacer to replace the sylink.xml on the clients
    https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/downloads/sylinkreplacer-tool-connecting-sep-clients-sepm
read the PDF included for more details on how to use it.

Thses are 4 ways in which we can move SEPM from one server to another.

    1. Disaster Recovery

    2. Move SEPM form one server to another with the same ip address ( as suggetsed by vikram)

    3. Replication

4.Clean install on the new server and then replace the sylink.

    1. Disaster Recovery :

     2. Move SEPM form one server to another with the same ip address

    http://service1.symantec.com/support/ent-security.nsf/docid/2008031204405448

     3. Replication : Add a replication partner to the old SEPM. Stop all SEPM service on the old SEPM so that all the cleints move to the new SEPM, then Uninstall the old SEPM

4.Clean install on the new server and then replace the sylink.: Uinstall SEPM from the old server.  Install SEPM on the new server  and replace the sylink using sylink replacer:

    Better to use Slink replacer....
Since you have domain setup it will be easy for you to accomplish the task.
This works well even if the number of clients are more....
Make sure you have enabled ports related to Symantec server-clients communication in the firewall.
    Every thing should work fine....

Try it in few pc's and confirm...

let us know the status of your migration....

Yes sylink replacer  will work for you as you are in a domain enviroment.

but I want to know which method will be better for a workgroup enviroment.
