Migrating SEPM DB to SQL 2K8 / Changing Management Servers

    Two quick questions:

    1) RU5 release notes indicate SQL 2008 support has been added for the SEPM database. We are looking to consolidate some of our SQL clusters for licensing reasons. The current SEPM database is on SQL 2005. I did a KB search but didn't see anything, I was wondering if there are migration procedures available to move the Database to SQL 2008, or can I simply copy the DB to a new server and repoint the managers?

    2) Currently running SEPM on Windows 2003 R2 boxes, but would like to move them to Windows Server 2008 R2 now that it's supported. We have a single site setup with two management servers in a load balanced config. Can I just install two new additional 2008 R2 servers into the same site, and then uninstall the SEPM from the old servers and decommission? Is there other cleanup that needs to be done?

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

The procedure would remain same as before. You might want to check the following

    1. Remove the SEPM from any replication setup with other SEPMs
    2. Backup the SEPM server certificate
    3. Backup the existing SQL database using SEPM backup and Restore wizard
    4. Install an instance of Microsoft SQL Server 2008
    5. Uninstall the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager
    6. Reinstall the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager configured to use a new Microsoft SQL Server 2008 database
    7. Restore the SEPM server certificate
    8. Restore the backup copy of the database
    9. Reconfigure the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager database to recognize Microsoft SQL Server 2008 by running Management Server Configuration Wizard

    Thanks :-)
