Migrating SEPM 12.1 on cloud

  • 1.  Migrating SEPM 12.1 on cloud

    Hi,

Just want to ask the consideration or best practice for migrating my SEPM server on cloud. I already have SEPM 12.1 RU2 MP1 on a physical server and planning to migrate it on cloud. I do have GUP configuration for my offsite clients.

    Appreciate any suggestion. Thanks

Stick with your SEP Enterprise Edition with locally hosted SEPM. I don't believe that SEP SBE 2013 supports GUPs in any fashion.

Yes, I'm sticking with my SEP Enterprise Edition. What I mean is, I'm planning to migrate my current Enterprise edition on cloud. Would that be possible?

    Thanks

I've seen some use Amazon S3 service for this

    Hi

Frankly speaking i would not recommend you to go on cloud as understood you are using GUP at present in endpoint which is not feasible.

    Regards

Does this mean, it is not possible/advisable that I migrate my SEPM from phyical server to cloud?

    Hello,

Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1 (Enterprise) and Symantec Endpoint Protection.cloud are 2 different products.

In Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1 (Enterprise), you have a Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager installed physically on server whereas in Symantec Endpoint Protection.cloud you have a different Manager.

You cannot import any settings Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager 12.1 (Enterprise) to Symantec Endpoint Protection.cloud Support Manager.

In your case, you would have to uninstall SEPM and SEP clients (Enterprise) and then get the .cloud installed.

    Symantec Endpoint Protection.cloud

Secondly, check this Thread with similar query -

    Hope that helps!!

    Hi Mithun

It would not be advisable for me to uninstall my SEPM & SEP (enterprise). SEP enterprise have more capabilities compare to SEP.cloud and aside from that I have almost 2k endpoints. Also, i'm not planning to convert my SEPM, just the physical server to cloud (hosted server/service). Thanks

    Hello,

I would appreciate if you could please elaborate on the sentence,"i'm not planning to convert my SEPM, just the physical server to cloud (hosted server/service)."?

    Hi,

Unfortunately Aeschylus did not elaborate but I think he was meaning that he was not planning on converting the SEP manager 12 Enterprise to Small business edition to use Symantec.cloud.
But the question was can he convert the physical server with SEP 12 Enterprise into cloud hosted server/services.

And I have also the same interrogation. We have a 5 SEPM 12.1.4 version on physical servers with around 50k SEP clients. We would like to know if we can migrate or convert the SEPM (physical servers) on cloud with the same feature and version without modifying anything on our SEP infra (client/server/policies etc) and I’m not talking about Symantec cloud but adding the servers on a cloud infra.
Is it something possible ? Any documentations ?

    Thanks

http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH93033 - Running SEPM to communicate to clients through NAT (Cloud/Hosted/MSP - not .Cloud -- notice the period :) )

Now when you are configuring the GUPs:

http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO80900 - this is the overall outline of GUPs in general - however you may want some more meat and potatoes and have better control or simplify policies a bit more

http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO80900 - Configuring Multiple GUPs on single policy (requires 12.1 RU2 or newer)

    Not SBE :D

He's got GUPs already - don't you just love our product naming...

    SEP

    SEP SBE

    SEP SBE 2013

I wish we could go back and rename SEP SBE 2013 to Symantec Hosted Endpoint Protection -- SHEP...but then again, SHeEP? :p

    Thanks for the reply ...

Not really what I was looking for but I've open a case and answers my questions

SEPM best practice and fully supported methods are physical SEPMs and SEPMs running on Virtual Machines.

    Good Day,

Apologies if I left this thread an open case. And Yes, prot it analization was correct.

What I just did on my side is parallel migration/upgrade. I created a SEPM replication partner from my physical server to cloud (service). I followed some best practices and consideration so my migration went well. Lucky for me, the connection didn't drop when the replication is still on process.

    Hi Aeschylus,

So you have one SEPM hosted on cloud and other(s) on physical or VM servers ? Or you had both, just for the time of your migration?

Since the migration did you encounter any issues ?

I'm asking because we are asked to evaluate the possibilities to migrate the SEPMs that are on physical servers on a cloud environement. We were told by Symantec that this practice is not recommended but having your comments can be interesting to know.

    Hi All,

We are planning new SEPM implemtation in Amazon cloud for around 300 ( Windows + Linux ) clients.

Already running SEPM 12.1.4 on physical servers and planning to use same license and version on to the cloud.

I believe SEPM 12.1.4 supports virtual environment also. Please suggest if I have to go for SBE 2013 for this case.

    Your quick help is appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.
