    Hi Mike,

to know better your needs, I'd like to know what is your Symantec product (SEP 11 or SAV 10), how many clients you are managing and in how many sites they are distributed and why you need LUA (maybe there are others solutions or architectures for you).

    Regards,

    Giuseppe,
We have 125+ systems running SAV their versions are 8.1, 9.0, and 10.1. Because of our environment they are not internet facing (and for security reasons cannot be made so), for that reason we need this LUA. If their is another utility out there that would do better, that would be great.

The server that this is running on is a VM running Windows Server 2003 R2. Any time I try to download it works fine till it gets to 99% then fails.

    Hi Mike,

I suggest you to migrate to SEP 11. SAV 8 and 9 are too old (bad protection against modern viruses) and not supported any more, SAV 10 is good and supported but SEP 11 is better.
    How to obtain SEP 11:
    http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/ent-security.nsf/docid/2007121216494948

Symantec knows very well that in any company the clients don't have a direct Internet connection and provides integrated solutions in its products to centralize the content deployment.

You need to install one only SEP Manager 11 in a machine that is able to download the definitions from Internet and all your SEP clients will be automatically set up to download the definitions from the SEP Manager. LUA is required when you have too many clients (thousands) or several Symantec products. You don't need LUA or other tools for 125+ clients. The same is true for SAV 10.

You should focus your effort to allow your Symantec System Center (the "manager" of SAV 10) or a new SEP Manager to download the definitions from Internet as expected.

    Regards,

    Guiseppe,
Unfortunately, due to our system configurations we are not able to update any of the AV clients on the machines that are being supported by the LUA server. If I understand correctly what you are saying SEP Manager will work for all SAV 10+ clients, and only the 8 and 9 clients will have to updated manually.

If that is correct I will explore that option next.

    Hi,

    my suggestion is different:

    1) dismiss SAV 8 and 9 (if the machines or the O.S. are too old, dismiss them, they are a big security hole in your network)
    2) Check the system requirements to chose between SAV 10 or SEP 11 (I suggest SEP 11), no mix
3a) if you have chosen SAV 10, you should set up a Symantec System Center to download and deploy the content to your SAV 10 clients
3b) if you have chosen SEP 11, you should set up a SEP Manager to download and deploy the content (only) to your SEP 11 clients

For 125 clients, actually I don't see valid reasons to complicate your architecure, its administration and the troubleshooting due to the installation of LUA.
