> LUA was needed to test the Updates on running systems to ensure that the updates are not interferring with our other programs. So these "Test Systems" are constently getting new updates from the LUA, while the other systems are only updated once a week
Testing is one of the valid reasons for LUA: the SEPM alone doe snot have the capability to allow definitions to be tested before being rolled out.
As SMLatCST said, make sure that the definitions are being tested and used as intended! &: )
> So is it possible that the policy for the "Test Systems" continues to get the updates directly from the LUA, while the "Production Clients" are getting their update once a week from the SEPM ?
Yes, "thumbs up" to the advice above- this can be managed from the SEPM by creating client groups and assigning LiveUpdate policies to those groups.
I do recommend that SEPMs and SEP endpoints in your production network receive new updates more often than once per week, though! The very latest defenses are always best to have. There's a lot of very bad malware in circulation. For some details on the Threat Landscape, check out Security Response's new "Internet Security Threat Report, Volume 17"

It still is possible to change your LUA configuration to reduce bandwidth consumption---- you're currently downloading 32-bit and 64-bit SEP client and SEPM defs. If all your test systems are 32-bit clients, for instance, then uncheck the options to download defs for 64-bit clients. If all your SEPMs are 64-bit, then uncheck the options to download 32-bit SEPM defs. And, if you do decide to continue updating your production network SEPMs only once per week, then make sure you are only downloading those SESM defs once per week instead of daily.
