We are experiencing issues with delivering the inventory plug-in to clients.  We can see that there are a number of machines where they appear in the target for install but requesting a config update doesn't alert the agent to download the plug-in.  We have also tried creating a test policy but to no avail.  I have also checked some of our newly imaged machines and they do not have the plug-in installed but do have others but they do not appear in the target for install. I have logged a call with support but ask if anyone else has experienced any issues like this before?

It could be an invalid package location.

    1. Open the Symantec Management Console
    2. Enter 'Inventory Plug-in for Windows Package' in the search field (without the quotes) and search
    3. Click on the 'Inventory Plug-in for Windows Package' result
    4. Click 'Edit Package' on the left
    5. Confirm that the package location (C:\Program Files\Altiris\Notification Server\NSCap\bin\Win32\X86\Inventory\Agent Package) is correct
Note: If you installed to a drive other than C:\, sometimes the Inventory Plug-in for Windows doesn't figure it out, and is still looking for it on C:\ rather than, for example, F:.  Correct the path as necessary.

If the drive specified is correct but the package isn't there, repair Inventory Solution using SIM.

Does checking/fixing the package path help?

Do you have enough Inv licences? Usually this means that inventory just isn't processed but another effect might be that it won't distribute the agent.

Try looking in the Altiris logs on the NS.

this may be to simple for your issue but the default asap sometimes slips up and I have found adding a start time and recurring daily can help installation.
