  • 1.  Inventory reports two versions of iexplore.exe

    Posted Mar 12, 2014 10:04 AM

    Good Day,

Recently, we rolled a portion of our computers back from IE10 to IE8.  On some of these machines, the Audit Software Report (which looks at the audited file inventory) indicates that both versions of the executable still exist on the computer in the same location.  We have verified that this is not true, but cannot figure out why both versions are still being reported as present.

Has anyone encountered this issue or a similar issue?  Could you point us in the right direction of how we might be able to deal with getting this fixed?

    Thanks.

    Hi gtingen,

Here is article, which describes this problem with "Audit Software Search" report in 7.1 and provides a solution to include Distinct in report query:

    http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH187976

    • Save attached .xml from article above ⇒ open SMP console ⇒ open Reports and via mouse-right click menu ⇒ Import.

Here is an information about same problem for "Hardware Inventory Search" report and workaround

    Thanks,

    IP.

Thank you for your reply, but the distinct report did not resolve my issue.  I am still receiving 5 rows for the same computer...two of which report IE 10 and  three rows reporting IE8.

    Any other ideas?

Try to manualy execute this scheduled task on your SMP Server

    • NS.Purge Duplicate Inventory Rows

NAME = Purge Duplicate Inventory Rows
DESCRIPTION = This item is available to be activated manually, through a schedule, to run through the inventory tables and purge duplicates that may have occurred as a result of upgrade.

well IE is very tough. So from what im reading is your seeing an issue where reports are showing both versions but you are not seeing that as so. i had the same issue trying detection rules so I created a custom inventory.

See this and you can report on what is really installed. It works great as I just did this on 3800 machines.

Thanks for the reply TeleFragger.  This is exactly what we have ended up doing.  Seems to be working rather well so far.

Cool.. glad it worked for you...

I had to do this for the XP EOL... going to do an article on that.. using the IE inventory and a pending reboot inventory I just placed and waiting for approval.
