  • 1.  Inventory of connected network printers?

    Posted Jun 20, 2012 02:35 PM

    Hello all,

I'm in the process of migrating from NS 6.0 to ITMS 7.1 SP2, and I need a way to inventory what network printers are connected to my clients.  On NS 6 I had a report that pulled data from the Server and Share fields in the inv_aex_hw_printer_spt table.  On ITMS 7.1 I see a inv_hw_printer_windows table but it is populated almost solely with local printers.  Is there a way to collect which network printers are mapped as well?

    Thanks,

    Dave

This is been answered under https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/ns7-report-display-installed-printers.

In 7.1 , it should be under \Reports\Discovery and Inventory\Inventory\Cross-platform\Hardware\Printers. There are two reports:

    • Count of Computers by Printer
    • Computers with Installed Printers

You can drop down the printer type and select Network to look for what you want !

The issue for me with one of our clients was user permissions.  If you clone an inventory policy or create a new one (or just use a task) and run it according to this KB on a single test system, do you see an improved result for that system in regards to network printers?

    Mike,

Thanks for the KB article link, that seems to have done the trick!  I created a custom inventory policy per the article and I can now see network printer data populated in the inv_hw_printer_windows table.
