  • 1.  Huge Downloads Folder for LUA 2.3.0.71

    Posted Aug 08, 2011 10:58 AM

    Hello,

Is there a way to reduce the size of this folder?

I am running a 40 Gb partition and this folder is taking up about 17.1 Gb of space.

Purge Manage Updates folder are already set to run daily and to purge 2 revision back.

Purge Distribution Centers are running daily too.

Database Maintenance is set to Purge task history more than 2 weeks old.

Running on virtual instance of Server 2008 R2 SP1 64 bit.

    Thanks

    Hi,

LUA requires several GBs of  disk space and it seems you still have a lot of available space, you are already doing the right things.

    Hello,

What other products are configured to the LUA?

The size necessary will depend on what products are configured in LUA 2.x for download and distribution, and whether full products or only the necessary components are selected. Estimates below are based on current SEP definitions available in May 2010. The necessary sizes will increase over time as protection is added against additional threats. http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH93409

By default, LUA stores all content on the system volume - normally the C: drive.

You have a LiveUpdate Administrator (LUA) 2.x system that is running out of disk space on the volume where LUA is installed. You would like to modify or reconfigure LUA so that it stores content in a different folder or on a different volume. How can this be accomplished?

    Well...check this Article: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH95156

The directory C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\LiveUpdate Administrator\Downloads is used to store content that has been successfully downloaded by LUA 2.x  This path is not configurable unless the product is re-installed.

Note that the default directory C:\TempDownload, which is used to store files that are currently being downloaded, is configurable from within LUA 2.x.  In the GUI, select Configure - Preferences and look in Environment Variables.

Space may also be saved on the server's hard drive by configuring LUA to retain fewer revisions back.   In the GUI, select Configure - Preferences and look in Purge Updates in Manage Updates Folder.

    Hi ddavid@peapod,

Just curious to see if the amount of free space has remained relatively constant or if the space consumed by LUA has increased.

You may wish to check that purging is functioning as it should.  This article can help:
