    Hello Everybody

I know the functionality of GUP, but I need understand more.

    For exmplo:

    I have the next scenario:

2 SEPM - in Load Balance... configured to the keep the last  20 content definitons.

Many GUPs servers - configured to keep the 7 last content definitions.

    OK... Now, my question:

If client are out of date for 10 days... and request a xdelta for SEPM. The manager need to send the xdelta to Server GUP.

But, if the client are out of date for 21 days, and request a full.zip for the SEPM. The manager need to send a full.zip to GUP or the GUP server are this Full.zip in the local directory??

Yes ,the full zip will be sent by SEPM whenever a client requests a fullzip file when the requested definition exceeds the number of content revisions stored in SEPM.

If a Group Update Provider receives a delta definition package, it only needs to download it once to distribute it to the clients it serves. However if the client is not updated for a long time, then the GUP will not have the definition requested by the client and it will request the full zip from the Manager and once it recieves the package it  gives it to the client.

Probably in this case the definitions on clients are corrupt hence unable to process the full zip and hence no up to date definitions on GUP Client eventually not to its respective machines which should take updates from gup .

Thing to check on gup machine

    • Disc space on gup machine
    • If corrupt definitions remove it
    • If the version is 11 reinstall liveupdate
    • repair the client and the gup client should be up to date
    • secondly is the gup client reporting to sepm under help troubleshooting do you see server ip or host name ?
    • if yes check for shared updates folder on gup machine it should be in there

Symantec GUP server is a Group Update Provider server. He is taking update on SEPM server and provide update to our group machines,

GUP server taking update on SEPM server and provide update to our group machines.

GUP server communicate with SEPM server on 8014 port.

GUP server communicate with our group machine on 2967 port.

You can define any one IP Address machine which have Symantec AV installed added on GUP server.

since the content revision on client is not present on SEPM, the delta generation is not possible, hence SEPM passes full definition to GUP , client takes the updates from GUP.
