there is free utility "Unlocker", it can help. Here is link: ccollomb.free.fr/unlocker/
If you are using winXP, you can remove System Volume Information by disabling system restore: right click "My computer" -> properties ->System restore

recycler is the folder that any files you place in the recycle bin are placed. As far as I know you cannot remove this folder .

If you don't want to put files in the recycle bin then edit the properties on the recycle bin to completely wipe from machine.

System Volume Information is where windows system restore files are located. If you do not want to use this folder then disable System Restore.

The folders will still be there , you cannot remove them. These folders are Windows System Folders , you should NOT be wanting to remove folders that are System Folders unless you know exactly what they do and are certain you don't need them...

System Restore contains the restore points. If you think you won't be using that and opt to re-install everytime the OS gets messed up. Reduce the alloted drive space or deiable it completely.

Recycle folder contains deleted files you may want to restore. Some users think of that as an extra folder (silly).
Anyway, I did delete files from the Recycle folder manually in the past, but it's from a removable hard drive that I carry around. The PC that created the folder has long since been reformatted so the bindings it has to the Recycle Bin application is gone.

Both of the folders mentioned were created in a removable storage device.

Is it Recycler or Recycle? I had a bad case of virus which avast cannot detect. The folder was Recycle, and exe file is Furio.exe

These two folders contains most of the virus like...

    w32.gammia..
    w32.infostealer

In one organisation where we have installed SEP, we found it, it was very easy to go and manually delete all files inside both folders, instead of SEP to scan and remove viruses. Couple of file does not get removed, ignore them.

This will reduce the scan time, and SEP will remove virus from the files which can not be deleted, if virus are present.

Look If your pc is  virus free and you are sure that these folders are not virus then you can

go to services.msc and disable system restore there and reboot. It will delete system volume information folder which is used to create restore points by windows.

for recycler I am in doubt so will try the trick and tell you. anyways this folder is used as recycle bin.

Check for any files present and cross-check it with Windows Registry.
You could also disable System Restore and after that, you should be able to delete the Restore folder. Maybe adjust the folder properties o be able to do so.
Does the Recylcing Bin show as empty? Do a full System Cleanup while you're at it just for drive spaces' sake.

     1) run Process Explorer and kill all suspicious rundll32.exe processes (normally, in most cases it must not be such processes in memory)
    2) check services, and disable/stop any named like "autorun" or seemed not must be there
    3) download and run w32.downloadup removal tool from symantec site
    4) if you make boot scan and there is no viruses, may be there is only traces of them. delete them manually. you can use unlocker tool (google unlocker download)

Hi Sujay can post a screenshot of the folders,

    C:/RECYCLER Folder

C://RECYCLER is basically a location where a users deleted files are stored. After a user empties their Recycle Bin the data will stay in the RECYCLER location. This could be viewed as a kind of hidden back-up for deleted files (99.9% of users don't know about it) or back door to track a user if ever needed. I would imagine its purpose is in the event a user deleted a critical system file that needed to be recovered.

Answer to remove files in recycler

At a Command Prompt issue:rd /s /q c:\recycler - (Use at your own risk) You want also to check permissions on this folder.

    System Volume Information Folder

If you've done much wandering around in Windows Explorer you might have noticed a folder called System Volume Information and wondered what purpose it serves. It's actually a part of System Restore; the tool that allows you to set points in time to roll back your computer. The System Volume Information folder is where XP stores these points and associated information that makes them accessible. If you have System Restore enabled but don't see this folder, go into [Tools] [Folder Options] [View] and click the radio button next to [Show Hidden Files and Folders] and it will be visible.

    Answer

Access is denied to this folder by default. If you feel that there is a virus inside this folder,

    To fix:

Right click on My Computer Select properties Select System restore Check turn off system restore Apply and reboot computer

This will delete all restore points including viruses backed up there. Remeber to turn system restore back on.

Our office Department has recently Intalled End Point with an intention to protect computers from virus attacks and malware. Initially we were running with Symantec 10 which was doing well during the month of April -June. Later on, we were attacked by Recycler,Furio, adobeR9 scene.exe and Restore.
    How can we resolve this?

I found a virus in Recycler folder. Normally, Windows XP on our office doesn't create that folder. One day, it just did it. It has a dllcache32.exe inside. Turned our to be a virus.
So far, the registry and startup was unaffected. I managed to remove the virus at a different PC using anonther AV.

Recycler folder can be deleted using the following command
Log on to command prompt and type the following
rmdir C:\recycler /s and hit Enter

_Restore folder can be emptied by disabling the System restore

Note: Both Recycler and _Restore are system files. Their contents can be deleted but they will recreate.
