How Licensing and updates work for SAV for Linux?

  • 1.  How Licensing and updates work for SAV for Linux?

    Posted May 22, 2012 06:09 AM

    Hi,

As SEP does not support linux platform it bundles SAV fo linux in the same DVD. from the documentation I came to now that it is not possible to manage linux client machines from SEP server.

I wanted to know how the licensing will work then?Do we need to install license on individual linux machines? But then in the console how will it sync to the number of licenses used?

How will the updates happen for linux machines, will they get updates from internet or is there any way to install Internal Update Server just for linux clients.

The aim is to have antivirus installed on linux machines but without exposing them to internet.

    Is it possible?

    Thanks

they can get the updates from the Symantec LU or internal Liveupdate. Or you can use Intelligent LU

How would I configure Symantec Antivirus for Linux (SAVFL) to download definitions from the Distribution Center (DC) of an internal LiveUpdate Administrator (LUA) 2.x server?

    You should ensure that:

"SEP for Windows" clients + "SEP for MAC" clients + "SAV for Linux" client <= total number of SEP licenses (seats) you bought.

But as the Linux clients are not managed, they will not be counted in the total number of licenses shown in the SEP console, right?

yes, it should not be. however there will be license that needs to be purchased for Linux OS machines as well.

Correct, but you need to count a license for them as well to be compliant with Symantec regarding your number of licenses/seats.

And do we need to install license on linux clients like we do for unmanaged windows clients?

    Hi Mahendra,

"Thumbs up" to the advice, above.  Just a quick note: it is not necessary to manually apply .slf license files to those SAV For Linux clients.  Just install SAVFL and the SAVFL Reporter, if desired!

    Hope this helps!

One more question. Is it possible to distribute virus definition updates to linux clients from Liveupdate administrator 2.3 and does SAV for linux support following linux platforms

    1.       Red Hat enterprise Linux 5.0 & later versions (kernel version – 5.1.19.6). 64bit

    2.       Ubuntu 11 & 12 (kernel version – 3.0) 64bit

    3.       Centos 5.5 (kernel version – 5.1.19.6)  64bit

    Hi Mahendra,

Has the question been answered by the info in this thread, or are there any additional points to cover?  (It is still marked "needs solution.")
